Parker Higgins is the latest member of the athletic Higgins family to join the UH athletics. Higgins, a 2016 Kaiser High graduate, is a linebacker transferring from Arizona State. SandBows open practice

Hawaii opened beach volleyball practice officially today. They had team picture and workout on Wednesday. Emily Maglio got in last week. She said she’s looking forward to one final beach season and enjoyed her time with the Canadian national team very much. It was former SandBow Laurel Weaver’s birthday. ‘Bows clamp down on Allman, Fullerton

Two opponents have scored 40 points against Hawaii in a Big West game at the Stan Sheriff Center. The first to do it, UC Davis guard Corey Hawkins, did it on just 14 shots from the field in an 11-point Aggies road win in 2013, his sophomore season. Day of the dedications

It was a 2-for-1 special Wednesday morning at the Manoa lower campus. Two brand-new facilities upgrades received Native Hawaiian blessings and dedications essentially at the same time (they were back-to-back). Hawaii baseball got its new locker room — re-branded a clubhouse — at Les Murakami Stadium, and the UH basketball teams can say their Gym II practice facility is officially open for business. What was talked about for a while became a reality when Nick Rolovich agreed to a two-year contract extension that will run at least through the 2022 season. Rolo set to move up seniority chart

The Nick Rolovich era of Hawaii football has been extended into the 2020s. UH made official a two-year extension for the head coach through the 2022 season, with the possibility of another year for the former Rainbow Warrior quarterback should UH qualify for a bowl game in 2019 or 2020. “Rolo” has three years in the books with an 18-22 record, including an 8-6 mark and a Hawaii Bowl berth in the recently completed season of 2018. Wahine add Hanawahine from Oregon

Kyra Hanawahine, a Kamehameha Schools grad, has transferred from Oregon. She was not cleared to play in the NCAA tournament. She joins Jolie Rusmussen as a former Duck to Manoa; Rasmussen’s transfer was announced on Dec. 25. Hanawahine, a defensive specialist, will have two seasons at Hawaii. Hawaii (0-0), preseason No. 3, slipped to No. 4 in today’s first regular season AVCA Division I-II men’s volleyball top 15, trading places with UC Irvine.
