Two days of recharge time over the weekend didn’t have a magical effect on the number of healthy bodies on the court Monday for the Hawaii men’s basketball team.
Hawaii guard Brandon Jawato, a fourth-year junior, is not far removed from a return to full action from his offseason foot and ankle rehab, judging by his progress in Wednesday’s practice.
Hawaii recruiting prospect Gligorije Rakocevic, who visited the Manoa campus over the weekend, indicated he doesn’t plan to make a commitment until the late signing period in the spring. He named the other schools he’s considering as Washington State, Oregon State, New Mexico and Utah.
Where did the offseason go? The start of NCAA men’s basketball full 2014-15 practices are nearly upon us.
Everyone’s favorite foil is back in town! Yup, it’s the Cal Poly Mustangs, who own a well-chronicled, head-scratching five-game winning streak on Hawaii. UH (15-7, 4-4 Big West) and Poly (8-13, 4-4) are both coming off of losses. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. tonight at the Stan Sheriff. The Rainbow Warriors have been pretty good at bouncing back; they’ve dropped consecutive games only twice this year. Keep your eye on Keith Shamburger’s shooting — he’s 4-for-24 in the last three […]
That’s what I’m calling it until the media embargo on Keith Shamburger is lifted — the Shambargo. Things in Hawaii basketball land took a bizarre twist last week with talk of some team issues following the 92-83 home loss to Long Beach State, and the first-half benching of Shamburger, then the reigning Big West Player of the Week, against Cal State Northridge on Saturday. After Monday’s practice, UH coach Gib Arnold said Shamburger was not talking to the media until […]
Coming off a remarkable 2-0 road trip, one should expect a pretty good turnout at the Stan Sheriff Center for tonight’s Hawaii basketball game against three-time defending champion Long Beach State. UH (14-5, 3-2 Big West) was down forward Isaac Fotu in Wednesday’s practice for general fatigue, apparently, but coach Gib Arnold said he’d be available for today’s game. The ‘Bows dodged a bullet with Fotu’s hand injury in December (no games were missed) and his importance to the team […]
The doors opened up again for Hawaii basketball practice on Monday, coming off Saturday’s 100-69 demolition of UC Riverside. Whatever concerns existed about team focus coming off an 0-2 Big West road trip were apparently solved during a week of closed-door practices preceding the UCR game, because the Rainbow Warriors displayed a killer instinct against the woeful and overmatched Highlanders. However, fifth-year senior center Davis Rozitis missed that game for uncharacteristic academic reasons. The graduate student is a two-time academic […]
