Moniz is Tuesday’s chat guest

By Stephen Tsai on October 3, 2009

Quarterback Bryant Moniz will answer your questions during Tuesday’s Warrior Beat Show, which will start at about 10 a.m. * * * * * The question, posed by a co-worker, was innocent: How did UH get to the point where it will start a walk-on at quarterback? The answer is: by chance and by design. Twenty-one months ago, the Warriors were in the Sugar Bowl, and June Jones — in theory — was the head coach. Jones’ plan was to […]

QB Alexander out for season

By Stephen Tsai on October 2, 2009

Quarterback Greg Alexander said he will undergo season-ending surgery tomorrow. Alexander said he has a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee. He said the recovery is between six and nine months. Because Alexander is a senior and has played in four games this season, his UH career is over. He does not qualify for a medical hardship because he has played in more than three games this season. Alexander said he will focus on graduating in May, […]

What’s next?

By Stephen Tsai on October 1, 2009

Greg McMackin said quarterback Greg Alexander’s injury is to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee. “That’s not as bad” as an ACL injury, McMackin said. But it likely will be damaging enough to prevent Alexander from playing in the Oct. 10 game against Fresno State. What’s next? McMackin said he has not thought about the scenarios yet, including whether to use Inoke Funaki as a backup quarterback. Funaki was the starting quarterback when UH defeated Fresno State last […]

Also, at least two players were affected by the tsunami in American Samoa. Rocky Savaiigaea said he was told one of his […]

Middle man

By Stephen Tsai on September 26, 2009

Blaze Soares appears to be comfortable in his new role as the middle linebacker. The move enables Soares to make use of his lateral range. He also will assume a greater leadership role. Soares is considered to be the Warriors’ best blitzer. But even at middle, there are enough schemes to allow him to storm the backfield. By the way, according to defensive coordinator Cal Lee, Soares’ GPA is 3.7. * * * * * Defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga and […]
