UH softball coach Bob Coolen won’t wait long to test a young Rainbow Wahine roster. The Wahine opened fall practice on Monday with 10 newcomers taking the field and they’ll have two workouts behind them when the coaches split them up for intrasquad scrimmages Thursday and Friday. Rainbow Wahine pitcher Brittany Hitchcock closed her week at the World Cup of Softball with two wins in five appearances in Puerto Rico’s run to a third-place finish in the eight-team tournament in Irvine, Calif. Rainbow Wahine pitcher Brittany Hitchcock earned a win in relief for Puerto Rico on Monday in the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, Calif. Hitchcock gave up two runs on five hits over three innings and Puerto Rico rallied to a 6-5 win over Venezuela in the second game of a doubleheader at Deanna Manning Stadium. Sarina Jaramillo, the Rainbow Wahine softball team’s starting shortstop the last two seasons, has transferred to Utah State. The Aggies announced her addition last week. Jaramillo started 49 games for the Rainbow Wahine this spring and hit .299 while driving in 18 runs and ended her sophomore season with a .968 fielding percentage. Katie Grimes made two appearances in the NCAA softball Super Regionals as a player and is headed to a third as a coach.
