Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football faces Army on senior night, basketball teams play 2 doubleheaders

By Brian McInnis on November 28, 2019

First and foremost, happy Thanksgiving all. In this week’s delayed edition of the Forecast (I got a little sidetracked at the Maui Invitational) some post-Turkey Day action makes for a busy weekend. Fortunately, there was nothing on the UH calendar in the first half of the week. Of course, there’s the UH football team’s senior night battle against Army, concluding the regular season. Note the late start (7:30 p.m.) for the CBS Sports Network-televised game. The Rainbow Warriors (8-4, 5-3 […]

Rainbow Forecast: Conference championships on the line for Hawaii football, volleyball

By Brian McInnis on November 18, 2019

It’s a big week in this edition of the Forecast — championships are on the line for the Hawaii football and women’s volleyball teams. The Rainbow Warriors, coming off an important 21-7 win at UNLV, will play their biggest home game in years on Saturday at Aloha Stadium against San Diego State. Should UH find a way to top SDSU, it will win the Mountain West West Division and earn a spot in the MWC title game for the first time. […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football battles UNLV; men’s basketball home, women’s hoops away

By Brian McInnis on November 11, 2019

There’s a rare Monday night game for the Hawaii men’s basketball team tonight to kick off a relatively light week of action — especially as home events go — in this edition of the Rainbow Forecast. The No. 18 Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (22-3, 12-2 Big West) is off from games this week after winning at UC Davis and UC Riverside in convincing fashion. UH enjoys a half-game lead over Cal Poly (11-2), but also owns the tiebreaker with two games […]

Rainbow Forecast: Basketball teams open 2019-20; football seeks bounce-back; soccer in Big West tournament

By Brian McInnis on November 4, 2019

The overlap has begun. Hawaii’s fall and winter sports seasons officially intermingle this week with the start of the 2019-20 men’s and women’s basketball seasons. Meanwhile, UH soccer plays its biggest match in years when it takes on host Cal State Fullerton in the Big West tournament semifinals on Thursday. UH volleyball, riding high after two big home wins over Big West contenders UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, must try to follow that up with wins in its last […]

Rainbow Forecast: Huge week for Hawaii football, volleyball, soccer; basketball teams host exhibitions

By Brian McInnis on October 28, 2019

As fate would have it, this week aligned for Hawaii’s three primary fall sports in one sense — all three face pivotal conference matchups that have championship implications. Football, coming off its 45-31 win at New Mexico — the first time UH won in Albuquerque since 1987 — hits the crucial portion of its schedule starting this week with the first of four Mountain West West Division opponents, rival Fresno State. If UH (5-3, 2-2 MWC) manages to win out in those […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football regroups for New Mexico, volleyball heads back out, soccer has senior week

By Brian McInnis on October 21, 2019

Hawaii’s three primary fall sports — football, women’s volleyball, and soccer — are coming off drastically different outcomes heading into this week’s Forecast. The UH football team is reeling a bit coming off a 56-26 home loss to Air Force, and that was followed up by Monday’s news that receiver and return man Melquise Stovall was dismissed from the team. The Rainbow Warriors (4-3, 1-2 Mountain West) are at a pivotal moment of their season heading up to Albuquerque, N.M., as an […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football hosts Air Force, volleyball 2 at home, soccer hits road

By Brian McInnis on October 14, 2019

In this week’s edition of the Forecast, conference races have heated up for the three primary Hawaii sports in action. UH football is licking its wounds from a 59-37 beating at No. 14 Boise State, and has to turn right around and play a very good Air Force team that spanked Fresno State on Saturday. The Rainbow Warriors are still in great shape in the Mountain West’s West Division, though, if they can pull off a win this weekend against […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football’s showdown in Boise, volleyball’s at Central Cali Coast

By Brian McInnis on October 7, 2019

It’s a pivotal week in conference play for both the Hawaii football and women’s volleyball teams. The Rainbow Warriors, well rested coming off a bye week and still feeling good following the 54-3 beatdown of Nevada in Reno, head up to Boise to take on the No. 14 Broncos on The Blue, a place they’ve never won. The No. 19 Rainbow Wahine? All they have to do is head up the Central California Coast for matchups on consecutive days with […]
