By Brian McInnis on October 17, 2018

Hawaii’s home game Saturday against Nevada is a crucial one for the Rainbow Warriors, who face a challenging back-loaded remainder of their schedule. UH (6-2, 3-0 Mountain West) seeks to remain unbeaten in conference play and gets another chance to clinch bowl eligibility coming off last week’s 49-23 loss at BYU. The Hawaii cornerbacks and safeties figures to be tested against the Wolf Pack (3-4, 1-2), who run the pass-heavy Air Raid offense. Sophomore corner Eugene Ford has 18 tackles, […]

By Stephen Tsai on October 17, 2018

Students from Farrington High’s Friends program attended today’s UH football practice at the grass practice field. Afterward, the UH coaches and players signed autographs and posed for pictures. It was a particularly proud time for defensive end Manly “Pumba” Williams, a Farrington graduate. “It was nice to see them come out here,” Williams said. “I take pride in where I come from, where I grew up. I’m a Kalihi boy. I love it. There was no place I’d rather spend […]

Warrior Beat: Call goes Farris’ way

By Stephen Tsai on October 16, 2018

On Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, cornerback Rojesterman Farris II was a signature away from the next phase of his life. During a signing ceremony at Coral Springs (Fla.) Charter High, Farris was set to make a written commitment to Wagner College, an FCS school in New York. “I was sitting at the table, and the next thing I know my dad was on the phone,” Farris recalled. “I’m looking at him, mad as hell, like, ‘C’mon, bro, it’s my day,’ […]

UH-BYU a possible 2019 Hawaii Bowl matchup

By Ferd Lewis on October 15, 2018

Although the schedule says the University of Hawaii isn’t booked to play Brigham Young again until 2024, they could be seeing each other a whole lot sooner. ESPN Events, which owns and operates the Hawaii Bowl, said the Cougars are “currently slotted for participation in the 2019 Hawaii Bowl” opposite the Mountain West Conference representative at Aloha Stadium. The game has had revolving representatives from Conference USA and the American Athletic Conference opposite the MWC. But ESPN also has a […]

In the first eight games: • Colorado State — 116 rushing yards, 4.64 yards per carry • Navy — 326 yards, 6.65 ypc • Rice — 147 […]

Crunching Numbers: 6-2 still looks good

By Dave Reardon on October 14, 2018

Since the University of Hawaii started playing football in 1909, it has started the season with a 6-2 record 15 times, including the current team. In 1920 and 1962, UH also finished at 6-2, since it only played eight games. Incidentally, in ’62, opponents included teams such as the Kaimuki Spartans and Tantalus Rangers. In ’20, one loss was to Outrigger Canoe Club, which hasn’t been on the schedule in a very long time. But the other team Hawaii lost […]
