The Warriors’ youth clinic was held this morning at Laie Park. Nice venue, nice folks, and some pretty impressive future Red Raiders. (There was a 6-year-old who fired a pass right into the garbage can/target on a rollout.) The tour continues this afternoon at Mililani High.
A year ago, Dylan Thomas struggled with his pitch command, leading to being redshirted in 2016. Thomas conquered his control and season-long back issues to convert all nine of his save opportunities this season. Today, Thomas was named the Big West Conference’s freshman pitcher of the year. “It’s a huge honor to wake up to that,” said Thomas, who was awakened from a nap to learn of the award. The Warriors will report on July 26 — exactly a month ahead of the Aug. 26 season opener against UMass. The first practice is set for July 27. NCAA teams are allowed 29 practices ahead of the opening game.
