It’s Jan. 8, and it’s about time the Big West Conference finally got underway with official league games. Coming into Wednesday, the BWC is the last of 32 NCAA Division I conferences to not have played a conference game. Well, that ends with UC Santa Barbara (11-4) visiting Cal Poly (3-11) and Long Beach State (5-11) driving over to Cal State Northridge (5-11) tonight. Hawaii volleyball: Guilherme Voss Big West Freshman of the Week; SandBows release schedule

Hawaii middle Guilherme Voss was named Big West Freshman of the Week, the first time in three Big West seasons a UH player has won the award. Voss had three kills on .400 hitting with a dig and a block in Friday’s season opener against Charleston. The Brazilian followed that with two kills on .667 hitting with three blocks in another sweep of Charleston on Saturday. Junior college defensive back Isaiah Mays set to join Hawaii football team

Isaiah Mays, a defensive back who played the past two seasons at City College of San Francisco, has accepted a scholarship offer from the UH football team.
