The Hawaii women’s volleyball team is back in the NCAA tournament. UH (18-8) got the announcement Sunday on the ESPNU selection show. As you can see below, the response to the program making its 26th straight postseason was emphatic: #HawaiiWVB is IN! UH vs Baylor in the first round! The streak is alive at 26! We are going dancin in Eugene! pic.twitter.com/DgMFA7HT6L — Hawaii W. Volleyball (@HawaiiWVB) November 26, 2018 The top four seeds are Stanford, Minnesota, BYU and Illinois. […]

Game Day: ‘Bows vs. Bulldogs

By Stephen Tsai on November 25, 2018

The ‘Bows struggled with consistency — and Fresno State’s full-court press — in a 79-64 loss in the Wooden Legacy. The Bulldogs’ press impeded the ‘Bows from quickly sliding into their offensive sets. That may or may not have been a factor in the ‘Bows’ 6-for-26 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Later, the Bulldogs used first-step moves to burst into the lane for easy baskets or to draw fouls. The ‘Bows had five players in double figures, led by […]

Warrior Beat: QB McDonald delivered

By Stephen Tsai on November 25, 2018

SAN DIEGO >> Under a nearly full moon, head coach Nick Rolovich howled with enthusiasm following the Warriors’ remarkable 31-30 victory over San Diego State. When it was noted Rolovich, for the second consecutive week, was wearing a specially designed shirt honoring his college protector — Vince Manuwai, a former UH linemen and teammate — he declared he would keep wearing it. “Damn, right,” Rolovich said. Rolovich believes in meritocracy, loyalty and faith — the qualities that made Manuwai an […]

‘Bows eke out rare win at San Diego State

By Brian McInnis on November 24, 2018

How about that? For the first time since 1989, Hawaii football beat San Diego State in a conference game. And for the first time since 1988, the Rainbow Warriors did it in San Diego. A dramatic game of see-sawed emotions ended with UH topping the Aztecs 31-30 in overtime when backup quarterback Ryan Agnew’s fade-route pass attempt went long on a 2-point conversion. Wins proving hard to come by

By Brian McInnis on November 24, 2018

There were a couple moments when it looked like the Hawaii women’s basketball team could rally all the way back from 22 points down against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. Those moments were either followed by a turnover or some other sort of missed opportunity, or just came plain too late. FCGU held on to win 73-67 on the second day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. UH (1-6) continues to be frustrated in its nonconference schedule heading into Sunday’s 2:30 […]

Football Throwbacks: San Diego State

By Brian McInnis on November 24, 2018

You can’t do a Hawaii-San Diego State “Football Throwbacks” entry without acknowledging the existence of one Marshall William Faulk. So, sorry Rainbow Warriors fans, this week’s submission might be painful — much like the UH-SDSU series as a whole. The Aztecs, who absolutely dominated the Rainbows in the 1990s WAC (winning nine straight from 1990 to 1998), have also gotten the better of the ‘Bows in the Mountain West, having won all six meetings there thanks to a seemingly nonstop procession […]
