Christmas is green and bright for ‘Bows

By Brian McInnis on December 25, 2018

This kind of finish to the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic did not seem especially likely a few days ago. Yet Hawaii went from merely salvaging a game in its premiere tournament to putting together — on the fly — the kind of run that could last well into conference play. A 68-60 defeat of Rhode Island of the Atlantic 10 on Christmas lent credence to the notion that UH’s overtime upset of Colorado was no fluke two days prior. […]

By Brian McInnis on December 23, 2018

There’s rebounding, and then there’s what Hawaii did on Sunday against Colorado. UH won the battle of the boards 48-35 about 24 hours after losing it 44-29. But it was a rebound of a performance in general; UH was deflated […]

It is a surprising position for the Buffaloes, who were were considered a favorite to reach the championship game. But Indiana State, and electrifying point guard Jordan Barnes, proved to be too good. The Sycamores defeated UNLV today to reach the title game. The ‘Bows went with a taller lineup in the opener. It will be interesting to see if guard Brocke Stepteau, who started the first 10 before coming off […]

Here are three quick takeaways from Hawaii’s 31-14 loss to Louisiana Tech in the SoFi Hawaii Bowl. UH finishes its season 8-6 overall and is now 4-4 all-time in Hawaii Bowl games. LENGTHY QB BATTLE ON TAP FOR THE OFFSEASON Both Hawaii quarterbacks, sophomore Cole McDonald and freshman Chevan Cordeiro, played extensively against Louisiana Tech and neither stood out. UNLV punishes UH for its shortcomings

By Brian McInnis on December 22, 2018

Ouch. What else can you say after Hawaii was taken apart in the second half of its Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic opener against UNLV of the Mountain West? “I appreciated our fight-back at the end there to give us an opportunity with two and a half, three minutes left,” UH coach Eran Ganot said. “But we just had too many lapses in a lot of areas.” The Runnin’ Rebels sped away for a 73-59 victory, sending the Rainbow Warriors […]

The University of Hawaii went 0-for-2 today in nationally televised games. Hawaii led at halftime of both, but fell 73-59 to UNLV in basketball at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic and then 31-14 tonight in football, at the SoFi Hawaii Bowl. David and Teri Loui were among the dedicated UH fans who did the double dip and attended both games. “It was fortunate that my friend had to set up (the tailgate) for the football game,” the man known […]
