Wahine walk off Mavericks, fall to No. 1 Bruins

By Jason Kaneshiro on February 9, 2019

Hawaii closed its first game on Friday with a display of resilience. The Rainbow Wahine then got an up-close look at pure dominance in the finish of the day. The Wahine opened their Paradise Classic doubleheader with a six-run first inning against Texas-Arlington, only to see the Mavericks catch and pass them in the top of the seventh. But Nicole Lopez’s leadoff double sparked a Wahine response in the bottom of the inning and sophomore center fielder Brittnee Rossi gave […]

By Brian McInnis on February 8, 2019

It’s a regular refrain for coaches and athletes doing preseason interviews to celebrate “seeing someone new” or “not having to go against ourselves” once actual games are set to begin. In the case of the Hawaii baseball team this weekend, seeing someone new involves seeing someone old. The annual alumni game is 11 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free. No official roster has been issued for the alums yet, but word is knuckleballer Steven Wright of the Boston Red Sox could […]

Hitchcock primed for fifth opener

By Jason Kaneshiro on February 6, 2019

In his meticulous penmanship, Hawaii softball coach Bob Coolen has written Brittany Hitchcock’s name on the bottom line of his lineup card for each of the last four Rainbow Wahine season openers. With Hitchcock back for a sixth year with the program, Coolen will likely make it five straight opening-night starts for the right-hander on Thursday when UH takes on Georgia State at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Hitchcock’s first run at a senior season ended with surgery to treat a […]
