Lots of action on campus this week

By Jason Kaneshiro on March 7, 2019

University of Hawaii fans could probably use a version of Disney’s “Park Hopper” pass to keep up with the action on the lower campus this week. The Rainbow Wahine softball team opened the on-campus action with an 11-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday to open the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament. The Wahine (13-4) take on California of the Pac-12 in the last of three games scheduled at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on Thursday. The tournament runs through […]

As mentioned a while ago (courtesy of the Longhorns): Hawaii is hosting Texas on Friday, March 22. That’s preceded by a scrimmage in Hilo and the Pepperdine tournament in Malibu. The details: The Hawaii women’s volleyball team has filled its spring break later this month with a trip to Hawaii Island and the mainland, sandwiching a spring match with Texas. The Rainbow Wahine will hold two youth clinics, two open practices and an intrasquad scrimmage at the Hawaii Hilo Gym. […]

Rainbow Warrior baseball: No short cuts

By Stephen Tsai on March 6, 2019

The late, great Ferd Borsch once noted that baseball, as a sport without a clock, could conceivably have a game that never ends. Well, we have a clock and we noticed that UH games involving video-review options take longer — much, much longer — than games without. According to our abacus and moon dial, the four games allowing reviews averaged 3 hours, 56 minutes. Games without the reviews averaged 3 hours, 14 minutes. There are some factors. The replay monitors […]

VIDEO: Rainbow Wahine roll into hectic March softball schedule

By Jason Kaneshiro on March 5, 2019

Break time is over. Ten days removed from its last game, the Rainbow Wahine softball team resumes its stop-and-go-go-go nonconference schedule with the start of the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament on Wednesday. UH’s matchup with St. Bonaventure, scheduled for 6 p.m. as the second game of a doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, opens a stretch of 12 games over the next 11 days for a team looking to extend the program’s best start since 2012. The Wahine […]

Rainbow Warrior basketball: Defending Big West position

By Brian McInnis on March 5, 2019

To defend its present position in the Big West Conference, the Hawaii basketball team will have to find a way to defend, and do it in hostile territory. It’s no secret that defense has been the Rainbow Warriors’ greatest shortcoming over their three-game losing streak. Over that span, UH has given up 83.7 points per game and .514 (92-for-179) field-goal shooting in road losses to UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, and Cal State Northridge on senior night on Saturday. […]

By Cindy Luis on March 4, 2019

Hawaii junior opposite Rado Parapunov picked up his third weekly Big West honor of his career, and first this season, after putting down a combined 34 kills with eight blocks and hitting .463 in last week’s wins over UC Irvine. The Bulgarian national had 18 kills on Friday, including 12 in the 33-31 Set 1 victory, and added 16 kills Saturday as Hawaii extended its program records for consecutive sweeps (12) and consecutive sets won (36). It was the third […]
