Rainbow Wahine softball: Heen’s blast takes UCSB opener

By Brian McInnis on April 12, 2019

For Bob Coolen and the Hawaii softball team, 1K is in play on Saturday. Callee Heen blasted a three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning shortly after UH faced a rain delay β€” and a one-run deficit β€”Β against UC Santa Barbara on Friday night. It was the difference in a 4-1 win over the Gauchos, as UH (25-10, 6-1 Big West) moved ahead of idle Cal State Fullerton atop the Big West standings. Callee Heen with the three-run […]

Warrior Beat: Tanuvasa eligible to play in 2019

By Stephen Tsai on April 12, 2019

Every so often, the NCAA does the right thing. And that happened this week when the NCAA approved a waiver that allows Eliki Tanuvasa to play for the Warriors this season. The rule is a player has to redshirt after transferring between NCAA Division I schools. After a semester at Eastern Illinois, an FCS program, Tanuvasa enrolled at UH in January. The NCAA recognized Tanuvasa’s reasoning was legit β€” he came home to help his ailing father β€” and granted […]

Rainbow Wahine softball: Bob Coolen nears 1K at UH

By Brian McInnis on April 11, 2019

To have it happen here β€” at the place Bob Coolen helped build from the ground up and the field that he used to weed himself β€” would take a little doing. As it so happens, “doing” is something familiar to this year’s group of Rainbow Wahine. Hawaii (24-10, 5-1 Big West) can give its 28th-year head coach his 1,000th win at Manoa if it can sweep UC Santa Barbara (7-30, 1-5) in three games spanning Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, […]

Warriors get commit from Geiger

By Cindy Luis on April 10, 2019

Hawaii got a commitment from Fullerton College sophomore hitter Garrett Geiger according to the Hornets’ website. He was one of the three recruits in the arena last week. The 6-foot-5 Geiger led the Hornets in kills during his freshman year in 2018 with 171 and earned second team All-Orange Empire Conference. He also helped Fullerton to a berth in the state tournament, a first for the program in only its third season of existence. Currently, he is leading the 2019 […]
