NCAA beach volleyball: Hawaii eliminated by USC, SandBows finish fourth

After Hawaii knocked off Stetson, USC defeated the SandBows 3-0 in the NCAA tournament losers bracket at Gulf Shores, Ala., on Saturday. The SandBows (28-11) finished fourth when losing to the Women of Troy for a second straight time this season. Watch here 1. Warrior Beat: Hawaii football’s Max Hendrie to medically retire

Defensive end Max Hendrie is expected to medically retire from the UH football team. The status means Hendrie would remain on scholarship, but would be ineligible to play for the Warriors. Hendrie, who was born and reared in Sydney, was listed as a defensive end in the Warriors’ four-man front. He redshirted in 2016. Recapping Junior hitter Colton Cowell put down 15 kills and top-seeded Hawaii used 10 aces to eliminate Lewis 25-15, 25-17, 30-32, 25-16 in today’s NCAA men’s volleyball semifinal at the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State. Three pairs from Hawaii were named AVCA Top Flight Award winners today, a program that recognizes success regardless of flight. The duo of Morgan Martin and Pani Napoleon  (21-1) had the second-best winning percentage in the nation at the No. 3 flight. Hawaii’s No. 1 pair of Emily Maglio and Amy Ozee (20-6) and the No. 2 pair of  Ari Homayun and Julia Scoles (19-4) also achieved top-flight status while ranking in the top 10 in win percentage.
