Former Hawaii men’s basketball guard Phil Handy is an NBA champion once again. Handy, who won a title with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, can get a second finger fitted for a ring after the Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games on Thursday night in Oakland for the franchise’s first championship. Justin Webster, who is 6 feet 3, averaged 16.2 points per game this season for Hargrave Military Academy, a boarding school in Chatham, Va. Hawaii men’s volleyball: Taylor Averill, Tui Tuileta activated for VNL matches this week

Two former Rainbow Warriors, middle Taylor Averill and libero Tui Tuileta, have made the U.S. men’s national team 14-player travel roster for the third week of Volleyball Nations League (VNL) action Friday through Sunday. Former Hawaii football coach Norm Chow gets XFL job

Norm Chow is back in football. Chow, whom you might have last seen doing commercials, has accepted the job as offensive coordinator for the new Los Angeles franchise in the XFL, which begins in February. Chow joins another ex-UH head coach, June Jones, in Vince McMahon’s revived league. Jones is the general manager and head coach of the new Houston franchise. Hawaii baseball: Dylan Thomas signs with Minnesota Twins

Former UH pitcher Dylan Thomas is in a Sunshine state — geographically and emotionally — after signing a contract with the Minnesota Twins. The signing took place this morning at the Twins’ training facility in Florida. Thomas said he will receive a $100,000 signing bonus. Thomas is expected to be assigned to the Elizabethon (Tenn.)
