The Hawaii football team opened its 2019 fall camp on Friday morning to considerable fanfare. Music blared from strategically placed loudspeakers. Media and fans alike swarmed the sidelines. HENDERSON, NEV. >> A bowl-eligible Hawaii football team will be guaranteed a berth in the Hawaii Bowl, confirmed Bret Gilliland, the deputy commissioner of the Mountain West Conference. The exception would be if the Warriors were invited to a New Year’s bowl or, beginning next year, the new bowl in Los Angeles. Hawaii football: Dayton Furuta named Doak Walker preseason candidate; Warriors complete offseason training

On a busy Wednesday, running back Dayton Furuta was named as a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award. The award goes to the college football’s best running back. Ewell Doak Walker II played at Syracuse, and was the 1948 Heisman Trophy winner. He played six seasons of professional football.
