Warrior Beat: Hawaii football ends training camp

By Stephen Tsai on August 17, 2019

The Warriors ended training camp with today’s 90-minute practice on the grass field. The wind-down came in stages: last week’s final full-contact scrimmage, the creation of scout teams and depth charts, and the newcomers moving out of camp-assigned dorm rooms. The regular student body moves into the dorms this week. With the fall semester starting on Monday, Aug. 26 — two days after the season-opening game — the traditional camp schedule appears to be out of order. School usually opens […]

Pisa Tinoisamoa wants no part of “the seats stuff” when the Los Angeles Rams take on the Dallas Cowboys at his old stomping ground. “If it’s up to me, I’m somewhere on the sidelines. I want to see it up close and personal. Especially being Aloha Stadium,” the former Hawaii great and retired NFL linebacker told Hawaii Warrior World during an autograph session with fans on Friday. Until this summer for a promotional event with the Rams — the franchise Tinoisamoa […]

It was the only practice in the islands for the Rams before they face the Dallas Cowboys in a sold-out NFL preseason game at Aloha Stadium on Saturday. McVay […]

By Brian McInnis on August 16, 2019

Between stops on his life journey, Hekili Keli‘iliki took all the time he needed to regroup back in familiar environs. “I went home for 10 days and came here,” the Hawaii third-year sophomore running back said. Keli‘iliki, who was born in Utah and came to adult age in Arkansas, did more traveling than most by the time they reach college age. Coming out of high school, Keli‘iliki went on a two-year church mission to Brisbane, Australia, where he was immersed […]

By Stephen Tsai on August 14, 2019

As a senior, he was named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State first team. He attended Navy’s prep academy for a year, delaying the start of his NCAA eligibility clock until the 2017 season. By Stephen Tsai on August 13, 2019

It has been quite a week for quarterback Justin Uahinui — and it’s only been two days. On Monday, Uahinui, a third-year sophomore from Farrington High, was assigned to the primary group of quarterbacks behind Cole McDonald and Chevan Cordeiro. Uahinui had practiced mostly as a scout quarterback the previous two seasons. This afternoon, Uahinui was awarded a football scholarship. Head coach Nick Rolovich said Uahinui was deserving because of his development as a player, his camaraderie with teammates, and […]

Hawaii football: Justin Uahinui trusted as third-string quarterback

By Christian Shimabuku on August 12, 2019

Justin Uahinui’s change of heart during National Signing Day in 2017 wasn’t out of the norm, as high school football prospects flipping to sign with different schools has become standard practice. At the time, the Farrington senior ultimately signed with Hawaii as a preferred walk-on that fateful day at the Sheraton Waikiki. But it’s the school he turned down that made his circumstances unique. Uahinui was originally committed to Nihon University in Tokyo, where the Phoenix offered him a scholarship […]

By Stephen Tsai on August 12, 2019

In an emotional post-practice ceremony today, Army Lt. Gen. Padello is an ROTC cadet and a specialist in the Army National Guard. Head coach Nick Rolovich felt it would be fitting for Fenton to deliver the good news. “I was honored to be here,” Fenton said. “Coach asked me to come by […]
