Hawaii football: JoJo Ward wins Mountain West honor

By Stephen Tsai on September 9, 2019

Following Hawaii’s 31-28 victory over Oregon State, quarterback Cole McDonald proclaimed the start of the “Joe Era.” It was in tribute to right wideout JoJo Ward, who caught 10 passes for 189 yards and four touchdowns. Today, the Mountain West recognized that performance, honoring Ward as the Offensive Player of the Week. It is the second week in a row a UH receiver has claimed that award. Right slotback Cedric Byrd caught 14 passes, including four for touchdowns, in the […]

By Brian McInnis on September 9, 2019

In this week’s edition of the Rainbow Forecast, the Hawaii football and women’s volleyball teams look to build off some exceptional starts to their seasons. UH football is off to a third straight 2-0 start under Nick Rolovich, but has a very tough test this weekend in its first road game of the season at No. 23 Washington. Can the Rainbow Warriors pull off a stunner in Seattle? Meanwhile, Robyn Ah Mow’s Rainbow Wahine (6-0) are off to the program’s […]

AP College Football Poll: No votes yet for Hawaii

By Dave Reardon on September 8, 2019

Hawaii did not receive any votes in the Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll this week. If you were told that the Warriors beat two Power Five conference teams to start the season and knew nothing else about their schedule, you might think they deserve a ranking. But those two teams, Arizona and Oregon State, are far from the cream of the crop of the Pac-12 — a conference that has been on a down cycle for several years. […]

VIDEO: Fourth quarter timeline of Hawaii football’s win over Oregon State

By Brian McInnis on September 7, 2019

Much like in Hawaii’s Week Zero win over Arizona, Saturday’s game against another Pac-12 team, Oregon State, was a tightly contested affair that came right down to the wire. UH and Oregon State both had chances in the fourth quarter, but in the end, only UH (2-0) made good on one in a 31-28 Rainbow Warriors victory. Here’s what happened in chronological fashion in what became a kickers’ duel. >> HAWAII VS. OREGON STATE PHOTO GALLERY ————— The teams entered […]

Hawaii football defeats Oregon State 31-28

By Warrior World on September 7, 2019

It was so quiet when Oregon State place-kicker Jordan Choukair’s 52-yard kick was tumbling through the air toward the goal posts you could hear the roar of the relatively small south end zone crowd first before the officials signaled the boot was no good just an instant later. The missed try on this windy Saturday night before a crowd of 25,141 didn’t end it for Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors would need to stop a hook-and-lateral play as time expired after […]

Hawaii holds on for a 31-28 victory over Oregon State. The Warriors open the season 2-0 for the third consecutive year with their second victory over a Pac-12 opponent. * * * * Oregon State’s Jordan Choukair was wide right fro 52 yards with 1:15 left to help the Warriors maintain a 31-28 lead. * * * * * The fourth time was the charm. After missing wide left on three previous field-goal attempts, Ryan Meskell drains a 28-yarder (from […]

Hawaii Football Throwbacks: Oregon State

By Brian McInnis on September 7, 2019

Much was different the first time Hawaii encountered today’s opponent, Oregon State, in football nearly a century ago. In this week’s edition of “UH Football Throwbacks,” World War I was five years removed. The iconic Central Union Church was brand new. The first aerial photograph of Mauna Loa was just taken. On the pigskin side of things, Hawaii’s nickname was the Fighting Deans, not the Rainbow Warriors. And Oregon State was not yet known as Oregon State, although they were […]
