Hawaii football: The road more traveled

By Stephen Tsai on September 29, 2019

It appears it is easier for the Hawaii football team to win a road game than to return from one. Following a 54-3 trouncing of Nevada, a charter flight was delayed in taking the Warriors from Reno to San Francisco this morning. Then an hour into the Hawaiian Airlines flight to Honolulu, it was discovered there was an issue with the pressurizing system, according to a UH official. The official said passengers did not notice any adverse conditions during the […]

Hawaii football trounces Nevada in Reno

By Warrior World on September 28, 2019

On paper and in the skies, Saturday’s contest between Hawaii and Nevada in Reno did not have the makings of one of the most lopsided road victories in Rainbow Warriors program history. UH entered as a 2 1/2-point underdog. Then it started snowing in Reno a few hours before game time. That stopped — but a persistent, cold drizzle hung over Mackay Stadium all night. >> HAWAII VS. Hawaii Football Throwbacks: Nevada

By Brian McInnis on September 28, 2019

The elements — rain and chilly weather in altitude — were brought up more than once this week as Hawaii prepared to take on Nevada in the Rainbow Warriors’ Mountain West opener. Some of those factors have contributed to the Warriors’ struggles in Reno’s Mackay Stadium in the past — UH is 1-8 there all-time entering today’s ESPN2-televised contest (4:30 p.m. HST). In one meeting in particular, a meeting on Nov. 15, 2003, the elements seemed to get the better of the ‘Bows. […]

By Brian McInnis on September 27, 2019

Gene Pryor’s first coming-out party with Hawaii football happened a few months ago, when he competed in a dance-off to win possession of the ball for his team in the Rainbow Warriors’ spring scrimmage. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Pryor pulled off “The Worm” to defeat Jonah Laulu. Hawaii football: Smart looks to make heady plays in Mountain West

By Brian McInnis on September 26, 2019

A breakout offensive game for Hawaii wide receiver Jared Smart included a couple of notable miscues. The 6-foot junior transfer from Laney (Calif.) College is looking to build on one and eliminate the other heading into the Rainbow Warriors’ Mountain West opener at Nevada this weekend. Smart had his most productive receiving game to as a Warrior to date against Central Arkansas last Saturday, with eight catches for 121 yards and a touchdown, helping UH improve to 3-1 on the […]
