17: DF, they won’t be a unanimous choice in the coaches’ voting because Shoji can’t vote for his own team.
They will still be the heavy favorite to repeat as BWC champs.
How far they get in the NCAA tournament is a matter of seeding and bracket. If they get screwed as they have continued to be, especially as happened last year, it will be a tough road to win a title.
they have a lot returning. Their only losses of note were Croson and Maeda. Hagins was rarely used so don’t consider her a big loss.
Both Higgins and Taylor should contribute right away. They may go with a 6-2. Olevao has made great strides in spring. Shoji told me yesterday, and as he said in Ann’s story, they have plenty of firepower on the outside.

but if there was anyone who fits the bill, it would be Tony McInerny who was on staff as a volunteer. would be an easy return for him. and he’s very qualified.

thanks roofer. I obviously was given bad info. was told they won the tourney last weekend. See at CVBA.com they finished fifth.
agree with all you said. There were some ridiculous rumors out there.
mainland, you also bring up a very good point in that UH has had its share of players who transferred in.
Transferring is much more common these days. How many of us made decisions at 16 or 17 that we wanted to change after a few years?

With Jane Croson gone, the Wahine are no longer one of the favorites to challenge for the National Championship, or even a Top 15 team. Also, they are not the unanimous choice to win the BWC, or go undefeated in conference play. All that pressure is now off of their shoulders. With this being said, it will be interesting to see how this Wahine team grows and gets better through out this coming season. That is what will make watching the Wahine play this season so interesting. I am definitely looking forward to watching them grow as a volleyball team.

Thanks #15 roofer68 … Most of us have said this from the very beginning of the Croson saga. It’s personal issues, not academic, that have led her down the path she’s chosen. She does need to seek help and guidance and hopefully she will find those things while at home. Is she ready to go pro? Not by a long shot. She doesn’t have the desire, passion or work ethic that playing at the professoonal leel requires at this point in her life. Maybe someday.

Firstly Cindy, Croson and Tiegs ended up in fifth place in the Hermosa tournament.
My input of the final chapter of Jane Croson. Hagins and Croson did not have a “fight”, how? because I know. wop ur jaws describes Croson’s personality exactly and it’s what she didn’t completely accomplish (Shoji’s outlined tasks to be done) that finalized her leaving. It’s her personal issue that led to the month suspension and the problem came up again during the sand season. All of these issues of her problem and assigned tasks was too much for the 19 year old and a return home is her decision. Let me make it clear, the problem has in no way anything to do with the coaches or players and it is personal and none of anyone’s business. I hope with the move home she seeks help and comfort.

Agreed Mainlandgal. She doesn’t want to be a wahine anymore so she should be out of sight and mind.
I am looking toward the future, can’t wait to see who the coaches get with the open scholarship.

3. re. the idea Croson could be a beach pro at this point is ridiculous she has a long way to go to get the work ethic to be a professional beach player.

Cindy glad to have you back! Just wondering if you have any idea who Charlie will hire to take Sean Carney’s place?

I agree with LC #7 … Croson subjects should be moot by now!!! There were and are players on the UH Sand team just as good as Croson’s playing ability, however, their sportmanship, and attitude they display are far better than Croson’s. Only seeing the first couple tournaments (actually the only ones played at home) doesnt show a lot as teams were still being tried out. If you look at the stats, Croson went through the most partners and not for lack of other players trying or playing up to her level. It was much more than that. And, I don’t consider a 5th place finish on the beach in CA last month a win.
Please, can we just move on from all the Croson drama and speculation!?!? Enough is enough!!!

wop ur jaws — it seems like you’re looking from some sweeping, conspiratorial answer to “why do some players transfer?” but the fact of the matter is that players will transfer for their own reasons and unique set of circumstances. players commit here as recruits, and sometimes things just do not work out. when they do transfer, sometimes those players find a way to thrive elsewhere (and good for them!). perhaps the skill set that player possessed was not what Hawaii needed at that particular moment, but it may have been precisely what another team really needed.

let’s not forget that Hawaii has had its fair share of transfers coming in, who did not meet with success at their prior school, but who found it here.

you may be hard pressed to find a common thread among the various reasons why players transfer.
