Direct quotes give those of us who may never speak with these players a chance to hear directly from them, and again this year I’ve been impressed with the players not only as athletes and team members but also as clear-thinking people with insights that help them on the court and that will be valuable beyond volleyball in the future.
Just one example would be Faith Ma’afala’s comments in your current story and in past coverage.

Look what we got in 2017. Half the class is gone (Howling, Lipsicomb) and Gong and Williams are still not ready for prime time play. For 2018, we only had from Shoji’s staff, Trinity C. committed and Kamalei K. a walk on. Robyn had to go out and sign 3 one and gone transfers in Angel G., Tita A. and Sarah L. to fill the roster.

We are a NCAA or nothing kind of team. Men’s or Women’s basketball maybe.

I think what he meant was Shoji had been very vocal about his retirement coming sooner than later and he often said that he would tell recruits to come to the school for the school rather than for him. This could have possibly swayed some recruits who might have wondered if Shoji would still be the coach or not through their whole eligibility, thus also the unknown of who would take over after if he indeed did retire.

Remember , she has to bring in 3 transfers (1 and Done) just to be respectable which they have from where they started. I really feel Robyn will start bringing in her athletes from 2019 thereafter. I am sure we will get some “Terminators” and Athletic Volleyball girls in her tenure. She has seen and played with the highest level women, so I know this is just the process…
As far as the season, I am just thankful we have a chance to play Cal Poly here and try to return them the favor. Cal Poly has to lose to us and another team and we just got to keep winning the rest. That’s the only way to the NCAA TOURNEY. This is one of the very few years there is no point to blame the committee. The N.I.T. Tourney is something I feel we could be more competitive in and would consider taking that if not offered the NCAA…The 2018 team worked hard, played through adversities, and play their hearts out in every single match. They deserve an opportunity to extend their season longer regardless the outcome

On top of that, players can also choose to go elsewhere b/c the coach who recruited them isn’t there anymore. So it’s gonna take a couple of years to change the culture, for everyone to get used to a new coach and new style/system and to get the type of recruits that fits the new coaches style/system. Just gottah be patient.

Sholiʻs retirement Announced the some day Ah Mow-Santos was hired
Most players for 17 and 18 had already committed by time Ah Mow -Santos got the job
They have at least 5 signing on Nov 7
