44. They won’t sub Van Sickle for Hellvig because they want the option of having Van Sickle play front row. They’ve had several different subs for Hellvig this season. Friday in Sets 3-4-5 it was Choy when they moved Hellvig to the right and Hellvig replaced Westerberg in that position.

thanks for all the help.
my observation on the Hellvigs was after they moved down. surprised that their tickets would have been up there. Parents tickets normally lower.
40. yes, forgot to update the score. USC over UW in 5
45. Westerberg only played in Sets 1 and 2.
I’d forgive the freshmen for ‘smack’ Have seen much, much worse from the opponents. don’t think that had anything to do with Ruddins going off. Hawaii couldn’t block her and think the matchup they got in Set 2 (UCSB changed the rotation as well as which setter started) allowed for Ruddins’ success. plus UH was having a very hard time on defense at that point. Give Ruddins credit, she sees the court so well. But do think her taking 80 swings took its toll at the end.
As for Rasmussen, we’ve said the injury would take 5-8 weeks. but this is an ankle that has been injured a lot so … when she’s ready, she’ll play.
Agree about the SEs. They survived having 3 in Set 5, 2 in Set 4.

45 Totally agree. Both Amber and Tiffany have a tendency to do it – neither smart or necessary. It only provokes and gives the other team energy.

45 Agree. Mockery at an opponent, pre-game public bragging about preparedness & strategy, etc., only antagonize and energize opponents to bring their A+ game, specially, against table leaders with go-to players. Please, let the coach do talking in pre-game, and players, only after the game. Wahine coaching staff outplayed Ruddins’ team by strategic variations in offense/defense, giving timely brief rests to key players, using depth very smartly to keep key players fresh and survive in long matches. Get good rest today and repeat the feat tomorrow against the team who swept wahine easily three weeks ago.

#30 yeah wishful thinking Andy. Pretty sure she said “Go Bows”. I would probably guess that we won’t be seeing JR back this year unless we go very deep into the tourney. It’s what 2 months since and she’s still in a walking boot? I was more hopeful 2 weeks ago when she was wearing the stirrup brace instead of the boot. Could be precautionary but on the surface, still doesn’t look good.

Dave asked in the post game show and Hanna said she prefers to play on the right side so she can concentrate on hitting and blocking. Lisa said during the match that she looks more comfortable on the right
Iosia’s last ace looked like a curve ball down into the court. Also glad Riley played and did good but coach took her out for Ross when she tried a dink or something.
42. They showed a lot of the Wahine basketball team were there cheering and they just had their fundraiser at the Hukilau from 5:30 to 8 pm that night.
-So what if UH beats Cal Poly and and both end up with 14-2 records ? Does that mean that Cal Poly will get the automatic bid due to tiebreakers ?

Westerberg needs to watch her smack. When she either blocked or got a kill against Ruddins. She said something and pointed at Ruddins. That sent Ruddins on a tear until she tired.
