The true highlight was the final ace that Emily Maglio delivered to Long Beach landing between Kruidhoff and Molina. Yesterday in the final point of the match, Cal Poly (with Chrissy Jones, former UW player) was aced exactly the same way and now the Long Beach girls got their payback. I certainly praised Emily Maglio in person for this. Best moment in the whole tournament.

As for the Cal Poly-UH match (I’m a Cal Poly alumni), I cheered great plays on both sides and stayed silent on bad plays. The final moments were very interesting and unusual as the two courts that were still playing in sets 3 were at the farthest ends and when one match finally ended, we all trooped a long way over the sand to the other court. Of course, Cal Poly fans outnumbered Hawaii fans, and perhaps that helped Cal Poly to win, but I think the Mustangs were so mad at losing to Long Beach the previous day that they dead-set to redeem themselves. Great matches, all in all, well worth traveling from the Big Island. Now I look forward to seeing wondrous wildflowers in super-bloom, an extra bonus for this trip.
