Good point! Maybe someone should direct Tormey to this site. Maybe Tormey could learn a new way of “coaching” his players. Isn’t that what a COACH is supposed to do? Kudos to the players that have been able to deal with him so far.

I was as appalled as you that the coach would place players through rivalry with one another. Tormey acknowledged in his interview with Stephen Tsai, that Enos has the “better leg.” Instead of wasting time with these asinine kick offs, shouldn’t he be ‘coaching’ Enos to develop his speed from snap-to-kick times, as he commented on needing development? Tormey said, ” lets just say there is room for improvement.” It seems that it is all Tormey ever says in interviews, yet what has he done to work with the kicker or punter???

I read another blog today and wanted to inquire to find out if I am reading this new blog correctly. Is the coaching staff requiring the kickers compete against one another to decide who will kick in a game? This cannot be true! What coach would have their players continue to compete against their own team? I can’t believe this would boost morale for the player or the team. Maybe having UH players focus on their personal skills and the skills and defensive tactics of the competitor would be time and energy better spent. There is a reason that the title of “team” was put into place. A player can’t concentrate on competing against his opponent AND his own teammates. Someone please tell me what is going on here??????

I think I can help answer you question. Did you read the link I posted?

After Wahini C. made some good points about the coaching qualifications it urged me to dig a bit deeper. The fact that so many witnessed Tormey’s unjustified acts on the field and the postings about him online I had to get to the bottom of this. I was reading about Mr. Tormey’s past coaching jobs and also about him as a player. He played for Idaho’s defense, under coach MAC!! He was fired from Idaho and Nevada as a head coach, then on to Washington as the linebacker coach. He then came to Hawaii, as we can assume he needed a job, and had ties with MAC. Would he have been hired if he didn’t know MAC

As I have read, Washington was the only major college football team to go completely win-less last year in the entire country while under his coaching. That is a huge statement! I am not hear to speak down to anyone just to present the facts as they are. I speak only the truth.

I have been a little curious myself about what was going on. They have required Alex D. and Scott E. to perform several of the directional kicks this year. Does anyone know why?

I have never seen this so much in a game before. You would think you would want to get that ball down the field as far as you can rather than and off to the side short one. Am I right?

We seem to do so much better when both punter and kicker just kick deep. They both have strong legs, Alex D just need to get in the game and focus. And Scott E. needs someone to train him to get the kicks just a bit higher if the defense cant hold back the line.

I heard on TV that the defense was having a hard time tackling this year so they wanted to kick it to someone else so they wouldn’t return so fast. Yet it seems it should be the opposite. Shouldn’t we get the ball as far as we can down the field to give us extra time???? It would give us more time in our possession right?? I’m just not sure why they have these guys doing this. Cant this hurt their stats?

It is sad to see these young men – that think they are going to a university to live “the dream” – try so hard – only to be beaten down by a coaching staff with an agenda that I just don’t understand. Is it not a coach’s job to mentor and guide these players?

I believe coaches have more “power” than they should. Using that unsaid power they have the ability to destroy dreams and a player’s passion for the game – as the article “pigskinwarrior” posted confirms.

A system that hold the coaches accountable for their success/failure statistics – and is open to public viewing (as player’s stats are) might change the way coaches do business.

It sounds like what you are all speaking of. I was stationed in Honolulu for 3 years and miss the football games so much! The Warriors need to get the “Aloha Spirit” back.
