Warriors: Back to work

The Warriors will participate in conditioning drills and weightlifting sessions this afternoon after yesterday’s NCAA-mandatory off day.

The Warriors have an after practice tomorrow and morning sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They depart for the mainland on Wednesday afternoon.

That will give the Warriors more prep time than Ohio State for the Sept. 12 game. OSU which plays at Virginia Tech on Monday.

    Good Morning, Tsai-meister!

When do you leave for Ohio?

  7. UHfan808 September 5, 2015 9:09 am

Actually at first I was not happy about Thursday night game bc I had to rush from work, fill gas on my way, grab something to eat for dinner since I’d just make it in time for the game, then work the next day but hey, I can take a couple for the team if it means they can rest up a couple more days before heading off for their next game in Ohio, right?! 😀

  8. UHfan808 September 5, 2015 9:09 am

    Have a nice day everyone!

Stay dry and safe as much as can!

  13. Ratmin September 5, 2015 9:21 am

Have to admit was a little worried that our first game of the season would be canceled due to the weather, but everything cleared at least in the Aloha Stadium area in time for the game. And what a game it was! Was awesome to see some defensive domination again. The Offense while not firing on all cylinders all the time showed that they can play hard and with attitude. The Special Teams have a few things to figure out but again the aggresiveness on kick blocking is always a major plus in any game and the kickers/punters seem like a dependable group.
Overall a great game for the whole team and not it is on to the bigger challenges of the schedule.

    GO WARRIORS!!

  16. H-Man September 5, 2015 9:24 am

Reflecting after beating Colorado. Boise St beat Washington. When’s the last time two Mountain West teams beat two PAC 12 teams the same weekend? But now it’s t moving forward time. Warriors managed only 12 1st downs; 4 by rushing. They have to improve their running game. Another blogger on yesterday’s blog mentioned that only 2 running backs were used against Colorado. Are we that thin in capable running backs?

  17. Da Punchbowl Kid September 5, 2015 9:25 am

Ratmin – My man!!! Good morning!

Agree with your assessment. Lots to work with, lots of positives.

  18. Old School Dave September 5, 2015 9:26 am

Aside from the game, itself, it’s a great educational trip for the team to the Midwest, especially the local players. They also get airline miles, too.

    Go Warriors!!

  19. Old School Dave September 5, 2015 9:29 am

Props (in this case) to Boise State’s win over UW. Good for the MWC (along with UH’s win). Read some condescending remarks from Husky fans regarding the Bronco’s stadium and field. Scoreboard!!

Getting ready for my trek to Columbus, gonna meet up with Mike Biscotti, Jim Rodden et al. Will be attending a UH function prior to KO and I have it from a good source Kimo Kai Associate AD/UH foundation about 450 to 500 in attendance could be more. It will be a great weekend and game! Go Warriors!!!!

  21. oldtimer808 September 5, 2015 10:03 am

Well ever since our Governer Ige used the “perfect storm” in describing the zipper lane fiasco, I suppose we could possibly use this with our game against Ohio State who is playing a Monday night game. This leaves for a short turn around to plan for Hawaii. Ohio State may be over looking Hawaii. We still have to play the game and desire and heart can accomplish miraculous things. Hawaii beating Nebraska in the fifties with 27 players in Nebraska.

  59. UHfan808 September 5, 2015 11:20 am

If they have a strength, they also have a weakness.

    Questions are:

What’s the opponent’s weaknesses our team can focus on..?

  60. Tanman September 5, 2015 11:24 am

Thanks UHfan808 for posting all the information… That’s a lot of reading!!

  61. Tanman September 5, 2015 11:32 am

Hawaii and Boise St. are the only two teams in the MW not facing any cup cakes… Both Hawaii and Boise St. were able to beat their Pac-12 opponents. For Peterson of Washington, returning to the blue field where he coached, lost to his former team. Boise St., continuing to be successful after changing head coach.

  62. Markazulu September 5, 2015 11:34 am

Uhfan808: I honestly think there greatest weakness is they’re overlooking Hawaii. So who knows maybe with there guard down Hawaii can catch um on the chin.

    Sure thing you’re welcome!

  64. rundown808 September 5, 2015 11:51 am

UHfan808 thanks for the 411. Appreciate the info. But what adjustments were made by Ohio? Common sense tells me when you have talent pound for pound on the field. Then it comes down to coaching. Coaches made the adjustment whether in the play calling or adjusting players. Lord knows you don’t necessarily need the best players you need the best and talented coaches to make something out of nothing. Yes, any team can be beat. But when your going against the best program in the nation, not just a football team. with a million dollar recruiting budget. You can be sure what’s on the field is golden. They recruit All-Americans and bring top level coaches to their staff. Why? That horse shoe stadium holds generations of legendary games and players. And brings alot of money to that University. It’s all about the money. Something we here in Hawaii lack. UH can and will learn from this game. Great experience for them.

  65. Old School Dave September 5, 2015 12:09 pm

    rundown808:

If you got that common sense from that article then you got it absolutely. Haha THAT was and is my point.

The idea about Something from nothing. There are many players and coaches. Just bc a player has certain stats, doesn’t mean said player cannot improve to a higher level given the right coaching that helps the player reach even greater potential. Take Boise St and Chris Petersen being able to break things down for his players/coaches so the team can understand how to reach success we’ve seen it is possible. That we lack funds is true but we don’t have to have it all entirely just to have a team but it would sure help in recruiting and making it a whole lot easier to keep the players fit fed well-rested and clothed, wouldn’t you say?

By the way, the “But” you typed totally and effectively negated the thanks and appreciate you typed unfortunately for my perspective and kinda hinders what you were getting at but I fortunately I’m gonna take what you said in a postive way, okie dokie, Smokey? 😀

  83. Not an Expert September 5, 2015 2:10 pm

UH players a lesson can be learned from the last play of the game.

Should this be a situation in the future for a UH offense in the waning seconds of a game, the receiver in this type of situation should never toss the ball to the outside official, but run it in to the official who will be placing the ball down. If that was done by the Colorado player they would of gotten at least another play off.

Saw a blurb that Portland State had less than a 3% chance of winning. So moral must be some kind of chance is better than none.

Greg Salas didn’t make the 53 man roster in Detroit. He was placed on IR for a knee injury in the last game. I know it sucks to be injured, but it may work out better for him. If not, he would have been cut. This still leaves hope that he returns during the season.

Still about a whole qtr left in the game, UNLV looking good on the road against favored N. Illinois. Perhaps the MWC will be a lot better that the bobble heads thought. That is a brand new coach at UNLV, the great Nevada high school guru.

  104. Willie September 5, 2015 4:29 pm

Must be bachi from me as N. Illinois scores two touchdowns after my post. UNLV trails by 15.

  105. z September 5, 2015 4:30 pm

UNLV defense getting gashed. Offense can’t pass protect roght now.

Hey can anyone give me some information on Ohio State?
I don’t have much to do for the next 6 days.

Cleveland.com is expecting Ohio State to be upset next week … http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2015/09/5_reasons_virginia_tech_footba.html

  110. oneseason September 5, 2015 5:34 pm

Seriously, talk about lack of respect. Ohio State schedules Virginia Tech on Monday, and Hawaii on Saturday. Couldn’t they fit an FCS team in for a Thursday night game?

  111. z September 5, 2015 5:38 pm

    119. Good one.

  112. z September 5, 2015 5:41 pm

    Bankers prevent defense not good.

Anyone know if there’s a coaches show on TV this year? I know Inside Access moved to OcSports, but is Coach Chow on it?

  116. Ran September 5, 2015 9:26 pm

I believe Greg Salas on IR means he can’t return this season

  117. NotNasti September 5, 2015 10:38 pm

    119. Rundown: All QBs are required to wear knee braces on their forward throwing leg as a precautionary measure.

Greg Salas, although being placed in injured reserve, will be cut by the Lions after clearing waivers. This, according to the Detroit Free Press:
“I’m sure it had a little bit to do with (being cut),” Salas said. “I don’t know exactly.
“I’m just going to keep my talk with the coaches just between us. I’m just thankful they gave me an opportunity.”
The Lions have placed Salas on injury reserve and will likely cut Salas with an injury settlement once he clears waivers.

UNLV vs NIU. Biased but Colorado is a lot more talented bigger and athletic than NIU. Rebels were spirited but went down. NIU was going thru the motions first half. It bodes well when we visit them later in the year. Now after today Warriors will get a good dose of attention with the upcoming game I am sure some of it will not be optimistic to say the least but I will take the attention anyway. Go Warriors!!!!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the road uni’s look like. Saw a picture of Max Wittek in a uniform same style as home but more of a Kelly green as they say. Anybody aware of that or will it be more along the lines of white? Just curious- go Warriors!!!!

  122. Warrior Fan September 6, 2015 8:38 am

Why aren’t they using ewaliko more, clearly one of the fastest on the team, in my opinion. Didn’t see to much breakaway speed from the receivers. Get him in there, down field it’s worth a shot! He’s capitalized and made big plays every time he’s gone in. Is it favoritism? Or what? Curious fans wanna know??? Are we watching the same game is Chow? Doesn’t he gets it by now? Wake up Chow and listen to the fans, public and media!

  123. Les Park September 6, 2015 8:40 am

What’s up with Reardon. He must have fallen off his stool.

  124. clyde September 6, 2015 8:44 am

Nice reporting, and writing, job by Stephen on the Paul Harris story. Informative, inspiring. A kid you can’t help but wish a whole heaping helping of success — on and off the field.
