Of course, an experienced reporter (25th season on the UH football beat) know this is the best pre-practice tradition on those hot, hot training camp afternoons:

    Maddog50:
Not sure about those OL numbers.
I counted, and the available OLs were Allen, Amosa, Clarke, Eli, Hensley, Hollis, Koloamatangi, Moananu, Norman, Tupai, Wa‘a and Webb.
    That comes out to 12.
Urban is recovering from a knee issue (he’ll be back in a couple weeks) and Clements was in the pit.

  2. jimmy the lock August 13, 2015 9:13 am

    As long as get enough.

  3. RB August 13, 2015 9:19 am

ST whats the deal with Jerrell Jackson? is he here or did he transfer to a Jr College?

  4. Stephen Tsai August 13, 2015 9:22 am

    RB:
He’s supposed to be leaving for Eastern Mississippi Junior College.
But he’s watching practice every day.
Maybe he leaves today? This weekend? I think they already filled his scholarship.
He’s a nice guy and has the potential to be a really good player. But I think he’s making a mistake. But, hey, he’s a grown man with two kids. He’s old enough to make his own decisions.

  5. Stephen Tsai August 13, 2015 9:25 am

The way it looks now, Nick Nelson and Jamal Mayo are the No. 1 corners.
Ne’Quan Phillips and Jalen Rogers are the No. 2s.
If they need, safety Daniel Lewis and Rogers can trade places. Lewis is having a terrific camp. He needs to be in the rotation.
Ro Farris and Cameron Hayes also are having nice camps.
As I understand it, everybody on the roster is fair game to play this season. At least for now. It’s only been seven practices.

  6. boolakanaka August 13, 2015 9:32 am

Even though all the pics are still, Ursua looks like a dynamic athlete….

  7. letsgowarriors August 13, 2015 9:43 am

so a real battle will be at NB, between NeQuan and Gaetano.

any chance Lewis or Mulanga over take Marrell for 1 of the safety positions?

  8. kobi August 13, 2015 9:45 am

  10. Jeezy33 August 13, 2015 9:47 am

Wishful thinking but would like to see Tupai get reps at DT. Seems like he would be suited better there. But just thinking out loud.

  11. Maddog50 August 13, 2015 10:02 am

Thanks for clarification-just going off of what Coach Chow said. The new OL need all the work they can get. Of the new ones which ones look capable of playing in emergency. Right now Hollis is really an unknown as a productive starter, Norman looks lean….there has to be somebody or two that projects to be a possible step in and play….Hensley? Moanananu? Who do you think–this is in no way a slight of Moose or Rj-

  12. Jeezy33 August 13, 2015 10:34 am

    11. Losing Agasiva hurt a lot. He would have started IMO. The options to step in from newcomers seem slim. More long term type projects.

Because someone is learn never doubt his ability, he had two great years at Fullerton College, and was one of the top tackles in the state of California last year, the coaches are liking what they see out of Matthew so far, he has put on a lot of muscles since January. He has switched from left tackle and is having no problems at all. The right side will be fine.

    Keeping it positive…

  14. Old School Dave August 13, 2015 11:10 am

Thanks for the pics, Stephen. “Pad level and leverage.” Love it!!

  15. Inyoface August 13, 2015 11:13 am

Guess the incoming DT they were waiting on isn’t going to show up. Anyway, haven’t been this excited about UH football in a long, long time.

  16. 3-Prong August 13, 2015 11:34 am

Don’t know about you guys but I’m Getting Pumped Already! Too early to load the truck for the tailgate though…hehe.

  17. Andrew August 13, 2015 11:49 am

    16.

I can’t even tailgate for the first game thanks to Mr. Ohio State

  18. turfwar August 13, 2015 12:14 pm

Boolakanaka just adding to your list yesterday of outstanding LB’s back in the day – Carl Kennybrew and Steve Lehor. These guys would be outstanding today. But one of my all time favorites has to be David Maeva. Nobody made better open field tackles and with the speed to cover any position.

  19. Maddog50 August 13, 2015 12:21 pm

I wish nothing but the best for Moose and others. I more than trust Coach Naole and his ability to coach and develop these guys–they have no bigger fan outside of family and friends-Go Warriors!!!!

Thanks Steven as a staunch supporter of the program I am all riled up over the coming year. We have more talent from end to end than I have seen in a long time. Gonna see at least 4 games live and we will see if I can squeeze in any more. I am sure we will cross paths. Last time I saw you was walking into CSU last year-looking forward to it–Go Warriors!!!!!

  22. H-Man August 13, 2015 1:21 pm

Maybe season ticket sales are down, but I learned today that there are only a few good seats available. I gave up my season tickets and went to purchase individual game tickets this morning. Seats in the two sections I wanted were sold out. It was a chance I took and lost. Next year, looking for season tickets.

  23. RB August 13, 2015 1:34 pm

Well I guess Jerrell Jackson is headed for LA Tech.

#17 Andrew i know, had to save up all year to take vacation from thursday (friday I will be in recovery mode). Had to take two weeks off to include the Ohio State trip. Don’t believe the 42 point spread at The Shoe. Go Bows!

  25. Warbow August 13, 2015 2:24 pm

#23…I hope he takes some English courses at La Tech.

I hope they can at least make the game at OSU competitive. That would be a huge step forward. I always wanted to go to the Shoe but I thought the Wisconsin game has potential to be more competitive considering the new staff and loss of their RB so decided to go to that one instead.

Former Warrior Greg Salas just in for 6 on a pass play for the Detroit Lions. Hope this year that one of the receivers steps up to show the reliability that Salas had with great hands and knowing how to get open. Key being use your hands not your body to cradle and secure the pigskin.

  30. Manoa Mist August 13, 2015 3:14 pm

Okay Stephen nice try but you gotta try the chocolate dip cone. Thanks for the pics it’s like we were at practice ourselves. Yeah I thought when Chow first came here he said they weren’t going to redshirt anyone. When did that change because we been waiting a LONG time to watch Ursua play. They need that kid. Norm: there is no tomorrow. Play the kid NOW.

  31. islandman August 13, 2015 4:21 pm

Is that the tower or lift, in some of the pictures, that someone takes videos of practices from ? It looks kind of unstable.

  32. kapakahi August 13, 2015 4:33 pm

    ST,

What’s up with Matt Adams (who tripped to UH during Spring Ball and was listed in the Media Guide but now is not listed on the Fall Camp roster)?

I would like the defense to bring back what we had at the safety position. We had some really good ones.

  35. Jason Valentin August 13, 2015 5:48 pm

Appreciate the pics! So excited for this season! This is the most talent and depth I’ve seen in the Norm Chow era. Hope we can finally get over the hump and get to a bowl game! Can anyone confirm if Dejuan butler and Melvin Davis are still coming to camp? I know Isaiah Bernard is coming on Monday. Hope they are still making it. #gobows

  36. upirons August 13, 2015 5:52 pm

As an Ohio native and huge tOSU fan, but also a big fan of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, I am torn on how I want all this to play out. I wish the Warriors the best of luck and I want them to show the nation that they can hang with the best! If only I could have afforded the $800 for tickets on the 50 yard line!

  37. kahuna August 13, 2015 6:00 pm

Maybe Matt Adams greyshirting or coming in when the roster can expand. Our safety position is loaded and I don’t think Adams is going to crack the starting lineup anyway so maybe the coaches left him off the 85 man roster to give those who have a chance to contribute a chance to get reps. When the roster expand to 105, we shall see who will be added. I also don’t see Casey Lambert on the roster and he was on the summer roster.

  38. oneseason August 13, 2015 6:52 pm

#22 … UH online ticket sales options seem very inconsistent to me. Sometimes you can choose your seats directly online and see exactly which seats are available; it was like that when football season tickets first went on sale. Now you have to rely on the online “best available” option, or select sections one at a time and see if they have seats (and if not, try again); time consuming and frustrating, and seemingly needlessly so. This flip flop seems to happen a lot. I wonder if AD Matlin could enlighten folks on that. But they have $445 ($145+$300 psc) seats if you are in the market for them 🙂

  39. 3-Prong August 13, 2015 7:58 pm

Andrew: you are probably right in terms of the competitiveness of the two games based on the buckeye/badger head to head results of last year. This tour has erie canal cruise, niagra falls, micro brewery, winery, r&r hof, pro football hof, sunday tour of the shoe and the potential of the Greatest Upset in College Football Hostory!! Cheeeeeeeee!

  40. 3-Prong August 13, 2015 7:59 pm

    History too, hehe.

  41. cappie the dog August 13, 2015 8:31 pm

Greg Salas probably made the team already.

  42. kapakahi August 13, 2015 10:02 pm

    #34,

With 4 safeties (Henderson, Jackson, Donovan, DeMattei) being seniors this coming season…….and with Matautia moving to LB, JMHO that it would be smart move for UH to bring in a true frosh safety……like Adams……to join the underclassmen safeties (Lewis, Mulanga, Packer, Borengasser) to add depth for future seasons.

  44. Maddog50 August 14, 2015 3:22 am

We enter week two and things should shape up and shake out day by day. Hopefully this week brings Davis, Butler , and the mystery of the whole thing is the whereabouts of Gus Lavaka. Guess he decided not to play this year, gray shirt with somebody and take some time off or pursue other interests-he would have been a nice addition but gotta move on. Really like what I see but game situation a whole lot different than practice-one things for sure barring the injury bug this group will surprise a whole bunch of people for the good! Go Warriors!!!!

  45. letsgowarriors August 14, 2015 4:53 am

Trayvon Henderson still a junior, thankfully.

  46. 808war August 14, 2015 6:19 am

@ST- Why is Ken T sitting out , or not in the DL lineup , is he hurt? Also why is Lakalaka third in the lineup , I thought he would be starter??

  47. uhfan10 August 14, 2015 7:20 am

Still wondering if davis and butler still coming to manoa myself?

  48. 808fan August 14, 2015 8:14 am

    Wats up with Kennedy T??

  49. Andrew August 14, 2015 9:00 am

Anyone know if Wisconsin is a dry stadium? At Colorado could drink but only in designated areas away from the stands. Another reason lucky we live Hawaii.
