UH, Michigan to co-host football camp

The UH and Michigan football teams will be opponents on Sept. 3 in Ann Arbor.

But next month, they will be partners, serving as co-hosts to a June 26 football camp on the Saint Louis School campus.

The Warrior and Wolverine coaching staffs will serve as instructors. The Saint Louis coaches also will be involved in the one-day program. Registration fees and itinerary will be announced later. The camp is open to high-school-eligible players.

This leg is part of Michigan’s so-called “Summer Swarm,” with an ambitious goal of 30 camps in 30 days.

The Warriors also are finalizing plans for their own on-campus camps in June. Details are pending.

I am happy and confused at the same time. Happy to see local athletes getting top notch expertise from the coaches, but wonder if such camps with big name schools won’t help to lure our best players away from UH.

I applaud the Michigan staff for their efforts. Thirty camps in thirty days has to be a grind – high rewards – but still a grind.

    Howzit DPK #1!
Wolverines should have to go through 30 day quarantine!
    Disarm da Swarm!
    Warriors huli huli da wolverines!

I think having UH partner with Michigan for the camp is far better than the alternative of having Michigan run it by themselves.

Michigan has such a wide pool of recruits to choose from. Hawaii kids will not be all out poached in this situation.

Good call to partner up, IMO.

    nice, good job Rolo!

    Good point, kev-1.

What’s that old saying about keeping one’s enemies close? As for the lack of poaching, why would Michigan have thirty camps in thirty days? Pure goodwill? I am sure the eyes of potential recruits will be wide open to the Michigan staff and the Michigan staff will have eyes on good recruits.

I may be wrong, but that’s my thinking.

I’m guessing the joint camp was aided big time by David Matlin, a Michigan alum.

GPA Football is handling registration and administration; Warriors and Wolverines are handling the coaching.
Seems like this will benefit UH, Michigan and Saint Louis.

    Maybe we can recruit some
    Michigan coaches to become
    Warrior coaches.

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!
Good call to co-host the camp. We show case our talent on a bigger plane. It would be great if the camps were free to all eligibles.
Might we be able poach some of their coaches?…lol
One would probably want to hold a camp at every hot bed of talented ballers and doing so in conjunction with local schools is a great idea. The financially strapped programs will be able to get some face time too.
Does scholie limits prevent “hoarding” or is there a way around it?
    anyhoo….IMUA!

Good question DR….the term used is “student athlete”…I think the student part comes first…so based on this academics comes first. 100% graduation!?!?!…yeah! I really don’t care for “one and done” type players. I don’t get to watch them for 4 years.
“When one more senior earns his sheepskin next semester, UH baseball’s 100-percent graduation streak reaches three years.
Maybe you’re among those who don’t care about that. Or you think strong academics should be a given and not even considered when evaluating how good of a job a college coach is doing.
What matters to you is if the team wins enough. And unless it wins its remaining six games against some tough competition, Hawaii will finish with a losing record again, four years in a row.”

Must be exciting for the local players. Good call by UH to co-host. Michigan looking for the one or two gems. UH looking to keep more at home. Especially irking has to be the ones in the recent past that have chosen other Mountain West schools.

When I get those scam calls, I interrupt them saying, “the FBI
is monitoring this phone call so we can track you and find out
where you live, so speak slowly.” Then “Click” they hang up
    🙂

I suspect there’s going to be a pretty big turnout for the joint football camp. Hope Michigan returns the favor in the future by asking UH coaches to attend camps in Ann Arbor. Quid pro quo!

Shoko – dey you go! Great suggestion.
