If he chooses this path, UH will honor his scholarship through May.
UH actually has the option of cutting loose a player who wishes to transfer. But Ben’s a great guy, loyal and hard-working teammate, and there’s no animosity toward a player who is going to do great things in the world.

recruiting woes go back farther than the late 90’s.

chows recruiting is the best since the early 80’s.

tomey was lucky he didn’t have to contend with the pac 10 in recruiting local players.

wags is responsible for starting the trend of getting small and slow players. lack of size and speed began to show in 1993.

fred was lost.

jj didn’t try to recruit, which is lolo, just ask kahuku.

mack had coaches that didn’t recruit, which is lolo.

chows 1st recruiting class appears to be the most talented ever. just have to see how they pan out.

great seeing many freshmen getting playing time.

#198, 199, 200 – finally good points nicely put after all that stuff Fat Boy puts out!

And as Kifi points out in his gentle reminder in #194, kids do transfer out of various football programs.

What are we going to do? Put chains on their legs?

people, if you don’t like the “hiring laws” of Hawaii, talk to your legislators to change it – they have the authority to do so!

BTW, you probably just badmouthed a player who’s staying.

What a fan!

Wrong guy……’cuz speed has nothing to do with the position……and he’s definitely not frail.

Now, I am neither a fan or detractor of Coach Chow, but will say, insecurity is a trait we all have. I study leadership and executive leadership for a living, and ironically, many great and iconic leaders are insecure. In short, being insecure at times, does not necessarily mean insecure leadership. Rather, it is about being cognizant of shortcomings, and taking corrective action. At the end of the day, strong leadership in a crisis, will always exhibit the following: focus and encouragement at the task at hand; shared values and objectives; and shared responsibility to participate in work and suffering.

IANA…..I echo your sentiments…..those who seem to think all that is needed is their brilliant analysis to make it all good are demonstrating their lack of understanding…..that is ok and maybe part of what blogs are for……when it gets personal it provides a public demonstration of their lack of maturity…..nicely hidden behind a screen name……I would venture to guess that most of these people have never been in a leadership or decision making position and have no idea what it takes to get things done…..I want a winning program too…..but we are not Alabama and will never be……we will never again get a coach with Chow’s resume and deep local ties for the price we are paying…..If he does not succeed I really wonder who will or can……so I very much hope he does.
