I don’t know Karl Benson at all. I don’t know whether he is a good commissioner (quiet but effective) or just someone that is a perfect example of the “Peter” principle.

However, when there comes a time when there is such a loss of confidence in leadership – justified or not – it is time to step down and let someone else lead the troops.

I do believe HI is unique in that

1) we have the most Div1 athletes per capita

2) we have NFL ties through the Pro Bowl, tons of NFL players, perceived understanding that we produce some of the greatest linemen (although those in HI already know this)

3) we have some of the best athletes in the world that include Olympians, Golf Pros, Surfers, Collegiate, Prep, Little Leaguers, etc.

4) a great environment for sports, which includes considering doing sports the right way…safe, focused, considerate for the community…much more than weather.

At some point, we have to market our strengths in a more prominent way.

There is no other school in our time zone. So Hawaii could still strike a deal with ESPN, so all their home games are televised, also. But only if their home schedule is upgraded.
