#74 ponojr Punahou does not buy talent. When Jim Scott arrived he made it his duty to accept more Native Hawaiians and other Polynesians. But no grades are given. So they get financial aide. That is MY Punahou. Many of us were never accepted into Kamehamea. Their bad. It was who you know back then. Applied 6 times and was never accepted. Why should they not have the same opportunities for a higher education? Did you attend Punahou?

Re Rainbowtique, AD et al.

When the Rainbow was put back into the name of the team, supporter shirts and a new logo should have been for sale the same day or the day after. I’m tired of lip service support from the UC.

UH Marketing students? Anyone? Anyone? I’m not buying another jersey until there is a rainbow on it… that’s just me.

76. Tommui, good comeback. Don’t forget Manti Teo, who graduated from Notre Dame in 4 years. Notre Dame is a very hard school to get into. Although I doubt that the admission standards are the same for athletes, especially the scholarship sports.

Funny that even in the book “Hawaii” by James Michener, there is a chapter about one of the characters whose son, a talented football player for McKinley High, is approached by representatives from Punahou and offered a scholarship to play for them. He accepts and the next season tears up the gridiron for the Buff N Blue. However, he catches hell on his way home one night from the local toughs in his neighborhood of Kakaako for scoring all of those touchdowns against the Tigers.

Those “paid” talent also have the grades to make the top colleges like Stanford, Berkeley, Washington etc. Why shouldn’t they go to a school that could challenge them to their fullest?
