His style was a lot more respected. OL has many natural abilities. We hope Shaw will teach and coach what it takes to explode this year’s OL natural abilities.
Coach smith is a refreshing addition. Mac is also reflecting on his coaches and should align their abilities to focus on strengths….

SD came a long way in a very short time with coach shaw….so good luck to UH OL ! to bring on the power and pride of Hi again….

In this case I think it’s ridiculous to say they “don’t have the background” and that they’ll have a difficult time. I don’t think Colt Brennan is having all that difficult a time in terms of adjusting. It’s unfortunate that Flacco & Ryan both had opportunities drop in their lap, & Colt wasn’t that fortunate. He’s better than both. Let’s hope he has a real shot
at PT. Or better yet, if the Chicago Bears or New York Jets come a-knocking!!

I guess Colt has good company…

In a similar vein, Theismann is not convinced that one of this year’s O’Brien finalists — Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell — will hear his name called on the first day of the 2009 NFL Draft.

“He’ll probably wind up with Chase Daniel,” Theismann said, referring to Missouri’s spread offense catalyst from Southlake Carroll. “They’ll wind up down a little bit [in the draft] because they don’t have the background.”

So, Tebow from the national championship team is just a “system QB” to Theismann and Theisman predicts he won’t succeed in the NFL.

“To have any kind of success at the professional level, I think it’s important for the young, college kids to work under center,” said Theismann, a former Washington Redskins standout who received the Davey O’Brien Legends Award during a Monday ceremony at The Fort Worth Club. “To hand off [from] under center. To run play-action.”

Direct snaps are rare in most spread offenses, including the one run by Florida, the reigning national champion. Although Gators quarterback Tim Tebow has won two national titles and a Heisman Trophy in three seasons, Theismann predicted Tebow “is going to struggle” as an NFL player unless he sharpens some more conventional skills during his senior season. His advice to Tebow?

“Go to a camp where you learn how to work under the center. You’re going to be a professional football player. Learn to be one,” Theismann said.

Bryan Clay is arguably the most accomplished athlete from Hawaii today.

This year, Manti Teo was chosen. I think Manti is a great kid but his future is still starting. Whereas, Bryan Clay who was passed over (he did win some other award), won the Gold in the Olympics game, for goodness sakes.
Is it just me who thinks winning the gold in the olympics in the decathlon is a
bigger thing than winning the Butkus Award and the State championship.
I think they got it wrong this year. They should’ve waited to give the award to Teo until he won a superbowl ring.
