It’s the pot calling the kettle black. So according to Donna Grim, UH would be balancing its athletic budget on the backs of its students. Where was she when the state instituted furloughs, reduction in force (layoffs), hiring freezes and tax hikes to balance its budget? I didn’t hear a single peep from her. She was too busy grilling UH on the “Wonder Blunder” to worry about the $300 million deficit.

There are 244 male student athletes compared to 221 female student athletes that receive athletically related financial aid at UH.

Title IX requires that female and male student-athletes receive athletics scholarship dollars proportional to their participation. For instance, if females make up 50 percent of the student-athlete population, they should receive close to 50 percent of the athletic related financial aid.

In UH’s case, female student athletes make up 47 percent of the student-athlete population and receive 46 percent of the athletic related financial aid according to the financial report. If there was a bigger disparity, it would probably warrant a Title IX complaint being filed against the university.
