I knew a guy who began teaching at a local community college (that will remained unnamed, but there’s a Farmers Market held there every Saturday) in the fall (August). First, he was told that he wouldn’t receive his first paycheck until the end of October. October comes and goes, no paycheck. He calls the HR person and gets a snarky reply telling him that someone placed his payroll file in the wrong tray and the person in charge went on vacation, so he had to wait until December. The attitude of the HR office people was one of, “How dare you call us and question us.” In the meantime, he has bills piling up.

MAHALOS FOR MY BDAY SHOUT OUT

I apologize, been kind of busy small kine, but just the bday shout out and I wanted to thank all who thought of me that day 🙂 All is well with the Eastman ohana, ‘Da Beast’ is becoming an adult with 2 kids and working in Kaneohe, ‘Da Bomber’ Lynette is still managing 3 hotels in Waikiki, and I am still working with the hotels but also am on 95.5 The Fish, ‘Hawaii’s Only Live, Local, Christian Morning Radio Program’ from 0500-0900 Monday thru Friday, and on 99.5 The Word at night Monday thru Friday.

And you know my tag line….make memories, make memories, make memories 🙂

Checks delayed 9 days for about 60 athletes … read in SA now, before it is blocked.

About 60 Hawaii scholarship athletes were delayed nine days in receiving their summer funds, prompting some to sleep in a locker room while waiting for checks totaling about $92,000, university athletics officials said.

Over these past few months I had occasion to interact with the UH ticket office regarding changes in my seasons tickets. It was a very disappointing experience fraught with (what seemed like) a lot of ineptitude and inability to accomplish simple tasks efficiently. I guess I have lived long enough to not get overly bothered by it and just patiently kept calling and encouraging the staff to complete the simple tasks that were needed. But it did give me a window into how inefficient the institution is. Say what you will about coach Chow and AD Jay. My sense is that they are up against a lot in try to implement their ideas. It is hard to imagine a well functioning athletic team functioning within a poorly run organization. It’s not impossible, just way harder than it needs to be. So the student athlete checks situation doesn’t surprise me. It does bother me to know that ineptitude gets in the way of young athletes simply getting what they were promised. When the athlete is late to a meeting or practice their behavior is confronted and sanctions applied. Somehow I can’t imagine thet those responsible for the checks fiasco are being held similarly accountable.
