Non-renewals, whether formal or informal, are more significant on the hardcourt. As to football, I think the benefits in recruiting outweigh the problems of limiting scholarship opportunities. Schools like USC are rarely at their limits, due to transfers and withdrawals. Indeed, USC never hit its sanction limited 75 scholarships. And that had nothing to do with non-renewals…..
