Holloway is honorary captain

The Warriors have rounded into shape and, for the opener, that shape is the octagon.

Max Holloway, Waianae-raised and School of Hard Knocks educated will be the Warriors’ honorary captain for Thursday’s game against Colorado. Holloway is UFC’s fifth-ranked featherweight.

The Warriors completed their final full practice this morning ahead of the Colorado game.

Two key players — running back Steven Lakalaka and slotback Dylan Collie — appear to have recovered from nagging ailments. Both are expected to start.

Aloha everybody ~ Only 2 days to go for FOOTBALL time. For the tgate, Mrs. SB & I have reserved Cabana A (same as the last couple of years) at Rainbow Bay Marina for all the home game tgates. I know it’s a workday, but the routine remains the same: early crew arrive/set-up ~9AM, grill crew fires-up ~10-10:30, eat ono grindz until clean-up ~1.5 hours prior to the game. Back after the game to finish off food / celebrate the WIN. Remember, everybody (locals and visitors) are welcome. The security ‘password’ is the same. Questions – email me at jboster(at)yahoo(dot)com. Hope to see everybody there even if it’s after work or after the game. Cheers, SailorBlue

    GO WARRIORS!
Game will be shown live on CBS Sportsnetwork all across Warrior Nation; 10pm here on the west coast this Thursday, Sept. 3–check your local TV channels!

By the way there are 14,000 UHM undergraduate students. Each has to pay $50 this semester for a sports fee. That’s 14,000 more season-ticket holders, right?

  7. oldtimer808 September 1, 2015 10:49 am

If I paid $50 as a UHM undergraduate student, I would try my best to attend the games and support their University team. It is unfortunate that the previous AD arranged this game for Thursday on a work week and school day. What was he thinking??? Why did we have to accommodate Colorado? Well ok water under the bridge but our Rainbow Warriors will win this game 38 to 21. Go Bows!!!

  8. Maddog50 September 1, 2015 10:53 am

Although those ticket numbers are disappointing winning cures all. People find excuses for a lot of things….except the opportunity to express opinions is never missed. Win this one and things will improve. Hoping its a good walk up number.

  9. SteveM September 1, 2015 11:38 am

    RE: #5
    ST — True.
But a non-student season ticket holder (non-senior) pays between $99 to $445 each, not to mention parking “contributions”, which is better for the A.D. piggy bank.

  10. H-Man September 1, 2015 11:59 am

Glad to read Lakalaka and Collie are cleared to play.

  11. PONO September 1, 2015 12:02 pm

Is DSJ going to play or is that hamstring still bothering him?

  12. oneseason September 1, 2015 12:48 pm

I hope the stadium authority will still plan for a good turnout for the Colorado game. With season ticket sales being a challenge, annoying the folks that are
sticking it out seems like a really bad idea.

“As of Monday, just over 15,000 season tickets had been sold,
a stark comparison to last year’s more than 17,200
    and on pace to be the lowest number on record, according to Hawaii News Now.”;

#11: If my memory serves me well, didn’t we recruit Desean Holmes? I thought he originally committed to us or was it someone else? In either case, I hope the kid can “find his way”…Sounds like he’s going through alot of problems.

  14. Andrew September 1, 2015 2:07 pm

At least parking will be easy..

  15. jeezy33 September 1, 2015 2:07 pm

    13. Hear he wants to here. Question is if Chow would give him another chance. I think he should. Hawaii is one of the best 2nd chance places out there IMO. Kid needs to get away and start over.

  16. Hana Brada September 1, 2015 3:08 pm

WIN!!! and they will come. Nuff said. Aloha.

  17. islandman September 1, 2015 3:38 pm

Inside Access had Robert K, Stephen T, Nate I and Rich Miano. Didn’t see the whole show, but they showed some highlights from last year’s game at Colorado.

UH’s running game couldn’t do much in the highlights nor the passing too (131 net rushing yds, 155 passing on 32 rushing attempts and 46 passes). In the box score it shows UH with four Tyler Hadden FG’s for 12 points. Colorado had 3 TD’s, one 71 yd pass to Nelson Spruce.

Although Colorado was ranked 116th in Scoring Defense last year, allowing 5 TD’s average per game, UH could only score on the FG’s and that was UH’s fourth game of the season (first on the road though). I take it that it will be better this year.

    Fib Arnold.

Former University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach Gib Arnold has been hired as a scout by the Boston Celtics, he told friends Tuesday.

In communications to acquaintances, Arnold said he started Tuesday as West Coast scout for the Celtics.

A spokesman for the Celtics declined immediate comment.

Get ready for a fight! Go Warriors!

  20. bowwar September 1, 2015 4:25 pm

#15: So we did recruit him and he changed his mind at the last moment, if I recall. This guy also committed to another school earlier and he fell to us…I honestly think this kid is too messed-up right now to make any kind of decision or commitment. I would be surprised if Chow took a chance on him. As indicated earlier, I wish Desean the best, but he needs “help” and I hope he gets it.

  21. mo808 September 1, 2015 5:39 pm

Good to hear that Lakalaka and Collie are fit to play!

Okay, even though Thursday is a work day—it’s not like fans didn’t get a heads up on it. So, true fans will show up (if can) or tune in (if can)—otherwise DVR.

    Go Bows!

Mahalos to M/M Sailor Blue for hosting da most awesomeness location for Tsaiko GameDay Tailgates every year! Parking is even better dea nowadays.

I tink I going bring salad just to annoy the Grill Crew.

  22. Shoko September 1, 2015 6:12 pm

    19. Sounds like a kid who can’t make up his mind. I remember the DE, Naim Mustafaa, who committed to Georgia then flipped to Oklahoma State and enrolled early. He then left and accepted an offer to UH then decided to go to Miami.

Well, he’s now at Southern Miss. He redshirted last year and seems to have finally found a home.

Sometimes it takes awhile for a kid out of high school to make up his mind.

  23. momo September 1, 2015 7:21 pm

  32. WarriorNY September 2, 2015 12:31 am

Is anyone putting the predicted scores together for Thursday’s game? Like Pomai used to?

I can do it this week but everyone has to repost their scores, i don’t think i want to scour weeks of posts…

I hope you all are well…

  33. hitman September 2, 2015 12:38 am

aloha everyone !! would not hurt to get Desean Holmes and give him a 2nd chance !! not like we have to much 4 star player lining up to come to UH !!

  34. SteveM September 2, 2015 1:36 am

    Re: #31
WarriorNY — it seems Pomai is otherwise occupied and I was considering filling in this week. But decided not to because of the conditions I would impose…

    1. Only scores favoring UH would be listed.
The score predictions are a measure of fan enthusiasm and support and any relation to reality is coincidental. Then we have people apologetically predicting the home team to lose. Then some are just critics who want to predict UH’s demise.

Also, I’m a sore loser and don’t want to see someone who predicted our loss win the contest/prize. PRIZE? Ok, maybe no prize anyway… 🙄

    2. Only exact score prediction will win. More than 1 person can guess the same score, and if multiple winners… Fine. Probably no prize to split anyway.

    3. But there could be prize(s)….maybe. Hopefully. Sorta.

–so I don’t think my way would be too popular, although I have the time to do it until Pomai returns.

  35. Fei Jai September 2, 2015 2:49 am

In other words, you can play Steves game if you agree to drink the Kool aid.

  36. Maddog50 September 2, 2015 3:10 am

There is nothing like a college football game live not TV certainly not a movie theater. A live game and the sounds and sights that accompany. Although the numbers are somewhat disappointing the prior record plays a role but also teams in the MAC and all but one of the MWC teams would be happy with 20k under similar circumstances. Excuses are readily available but I will be up at midnight to get as close to my Warriors as possible!!!!! Go Warriors

  37. akuhead2 September 2, 2015 3:12 am

Who here is willing to bet that the first play called by our first possession is a running play…whopper is up for grabs here…only one bet per island will be accepted…be the first…..he he he

Be nice to see 3 passes…in a row for yardage… then more for the first td of the season… with mucho more to follow….. n zero running plays….should give them defensive backs the jitters for the rest of the game…

    GO WARRIORS…

  46. H-Man September 2, 2015 9:11 am

First play will be a running play to Lakalaka.

  47. What??? September 2, 2015 9:15 am

If by some chance it’s first and 6 inches to go for the TD, run the ball.

  48. st. anthony trojan September 2, 2015 9:47 am
