They practice against the same type of offense so one would think the team would field a better defense in the passing game.

Against Cal, Colorado racked up 56 points, 39 first downs, 610 total yards and the QB passed for 7 touchdowns and 450 yards against Cal’s defense. The star wide receiver, Nelson Spruce, was in on 19 receptions for a total of 176 yards and 3 touchdowns. (Is this guy going to be playing on Sundays? Against UH he had 13 receptions).

While Cal’s defense was like a soft boiled egg against Colorado’s offense, Hawaii defense hardened as the game went on as Hawaii’s defense didn’t allow any second half points to Colorado. Yes, I know somebody (probably al again) is probably going to say that I am stating the obvious. But I just wanted to credit the Hawaii defense, especially how I can use the Cal-Colorado game as a comparision.

Now if only the offense can come around…man this team can be a lot better than it’s record has shown for the last three years under Chow.

Yes, it is just hair. But, I think rules provide structure and unity within the team concept. UH is still 0-0 in the MWC. Go Warriors!

What comes into play:

An athletes First Amendment rights of freedom of expression.

And:

Title IX, which, for nearly four decades, has stipulated that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

And:

UH’s mission statement.

If push came to shove in a court of law whom do you think would win:

Athlete with long hair denied access to football team vs. UH?

Answer this question with an open mind. I say UH loses. Chow loses.

The plaintiff’s attorney would easily rip Chow’s long hair restriction to pieces.

The school would be left in the dust with nothing to refute. It’s a simple, open and shut case.

That’s my opinion. Forget the notion that having long hair makes it easier for the helmet to come off during a play. That is not necessarily true (or a valid enough reason used by Chow to enforce short hair). Chow can enforce uniformity to a certain extent but he can’t discriminate.

We have lost to all of them every time we played, losing twice to CSU and Fresno and once to New Mexico. For three years before hiring, New Mexico had three consecutive 1-11 seasons, and CSU had three consecutive 3-9 seasons.

plus now …surely there must be sum travel restrictions… with the budget ‘squeeze..
just to me… makes no difference where you sleep if in the ‘big city’ as close as you can get to the ‘field of action’ seems to be best… i would think…

usually the HC makes that decision…decision will still be made by him next week..
that if he is still around…to make it…surely not a very wise decision…nor are the ‘odds’ in his favor…
