Tom–spot-on as usual. Pierre and Ellison, have no ties to either UH or their respective athletic departments. All because they are fabulously wealthy, does not mean we should target their pocketbooks.

It is, at best presumptuous, and at worse, says we don’t have the where-with-all and smarts to create our own solutions. If you lived on a block with a really wealthy person on the corner, would you bang on their door to ask them to pay your mortgage? Certainly not.

They have no interest, per se in UH or football, that said, we have the ability to resolve our own problems.

Pass the buck to somebody else!

Maybe instead of relying on Pierre or Ellison, maybe we should donate a couple of bucks out of our pockets instead. It may not be as much, but every penny helps.

Amemiya’s track record with high school athletics holds weight with the athletic community. If upper campus constrains or hampers his efforts everyone will know for sure where changes need to be made.

In the matter of the AD position at UH:

Those of you who think things will change with the hiring of Amemiya, Blangiardi or whoever have never worked within the bureaucracy of the Athletic Department or Upper Campus. Why do you think June Jones does not want the job? Because he knows that things will remain the same if the only change is the AD position. It is what is it is folks.

Ages ago, I tried to walk on to the football team. I was the fastest trying out, but that was it– the other guys were slow more than I was fast. About a third of the way, I pulled a hamstring and that was it.

Not too impressed with the recruits. There are a few good ones but not sure about others… too many good ones slipped through and went to other schools. I hope that they are trying to sign more quality players.

I wonder if they could have better players if they’ve hired DC and OC earlier. If they are quality DC and OC hires, my thought is they could have got us at lease one or two good players each if they were hired early enough…

Anyway, now, we need them to use the coaches’ sharp eyes to identify quality walk-on players. It’ll be nice if we can get more than half a dozen good ones to build depth. If a few of these can become the next all stars like Chad Owen, Colt Brennen…

UH advertising for hoops opening

The University of Hawaii is moving toward advertising an opening for a head coach for its men’s basketball team.

“I would guess that the position is going to get posted and a national search will begin,” athletic director Ben Jay said Monday. Jay said it could be done shortly.

I understand that there are a few graduates working out hard everyday getting prepared for Pro Day in San Diego. Hopefully some will be able to pursue their dream. Go for it Warriors. Give it your all and see where it takes you. This the time!
