I meant to say that the Na Wahine program stagnates if it raised $25K but it goes into a general fund and the sport the funds were raised for gets the same amount it usually gets from the UHAD with an adjustment for inflation and some additional money to cover cost arising from extension of play into championship tournament, regional play and beyond.

another sidebar to ST’s comment on Dr. Mortimer’s fund raising efforts is JD’s request for each sport booster club toraise $25K, it’s not mandatory, but it is thinking out of the box in an effort to reduce the deficit or at least the amount UHAD spends on a program. like in ST analysis, the women non revenue sport, except wvb, can never get ahead. Na Wahine sports operate on bare bones budget, they don’t pull in much revenue, and they must depend on the largess of the UHAD fulfilling title IX requirements. The 25K raised, if at all possible, would go a long way in bettering the Na Wahine programs, instead it stagnates at the same level with the income level coming from different sources but not in large amount

There will be a posting in tomorrow’s blog, but Bobbie Omoto from UH wants to know who would like to volunteer for Saturday’s Manoa Makeover. Meet at 7:30, orientation at 7:45, then work from 8 to noon. Volunteers get T-shirts and a bbq meal.

A long time ago, UH president Kenneth Mortimer asked Gov. Cayetano, if UH can raise money, will the state not cut a corresponding amount in funding? No promises were made, and that, of course, became a problem. The more money UH can raise, the likelihood it will receive even less from the the state. I mean, we all have our problems, don’t we? But on this treadmill, UH can never get ahead.

I’m worried about high school sports. Keith Amemiya did such a great job raising money last year. Can that continue? Not very likely this time around. So where will the money come from?

There’s a lesson to be learned from Utah State’s fund-raising.

Jazmine Zamora, 2010 UH commit, is in Georgia with her SVG Velocity softball team competing in the 2010 ASA Gold Tournament. SGV Velocity defeated the St. Louis Fusion 5-2 today. They will play the Beverly Bandits Tuesday, live stats available. Today she was 0-2, run scored, 4 assists, and she is the starting short stop

Unnamed player in the locker next to me kept his lucky socks in there for the entire season.

By game 7 they could stand up by themselves. Games 2-6 the flies were buzzing but by game 7 they said adios!!

They were not spanish flies if you thought of asking.

Don, unnamed player in 1979 with a locker to my immediate right, didn’t wash his jersey through camp and through the first seven games. Equipment manager went into the locker after the seventh game and put in the washer when everyone was at school. Yes, the jersey did stand up on it’s own. Major hauna’s.
