“Toyko High”? I didn’t want to promote debate on it – but someone mentioned naming a school after Senator Inouye! My late father-in-law probably would lambast me for such a suggestion – his picture is hung in the school’s “whose that”.

(Teddy Roosevelt and Lincoln should not be touched. There is always the “geographical schools” like Kailua, Aina Hina etc but there is no real connection between the Senator and those schools).

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!|

As a graduate of McKinley high, I was outraged when there was suggestion that McKinley be renamed for President Obama. Nothing against Obama, but what did he have to do with MHS?

Now, Senator Dan Inouye… I am not convinced, but I am not outraged at the suggestion. His high school too, and it known as “Japan High”, as Al could tell you. Inouye’s work and support for his fellow nisei and our generation was lifelong. McKinley High made 100 years old when I was there, so if a new building or complex should be added to this historical site, it should be named after Inouye.

Not sure why you — and your classmates — would be in favor of keeping “McKinley” upon being offered to change the school’s name to “Inouye [High],” SteveM; I mean, there’s gotta be a bunch of schools on the Mainland also named “McKinley.” Ya’ll’s be the ONLY school in U.S. called “Inouye High School.” Yes? Yes.
