Helps when your running back can see the holes also.

So in essence the same waiting period as a RS Frosh.
Oh, also add Blake Muir to that elite group of RS Frosh Oline starters

You also have to agree that the tar d of last years schedule wasn’t as hard as the first part of the season. I will agree with you that Joeys return did help but questionable at playing calling by Chow IMHO costs us another win or two.

I can’t see the oline making almost a 180 degree swing from the last two years. You can have 30 oline men in camp but can they protect the QB, give receivers time to run their routes and open holes for the running backs? I hope I’m wrong but only time will tell. Good luck Coach Naole.

Joey’s physical contributions to the O was readily apparent. I really believe the intangibles of leadership and inspiration changed the demeanor of the line. Again, it might be my imagination but I really thought the improvement in the line was more mental than physical. Though they still had their physical limitations and had an occasional bust they seemed more focused as a group. They seemed more confident as a unit with a “do you’re job” attitude whether run or pass blocking.

Joey is one of those players that makes those around him (play) better. Colt, Samson, Nate, Niko…..

He needed a back that could smash through the center/guard/tackle and also block effectively. Unfortunately the other backs had their limitations when Joey went down.

When Joey came back, the opposing defense couldn’t just go after the QB because the run was there. And of course by that time the other backs had gotten more experience in the system

I thought the line played harder and more inspired when Joey came back. I felt a palpitable feeling of anticpation running through the stands on short yardage situations in the last couple of home games. Seems everyone was thinking block and give it to Joey.
