Too bad for Landon Hernandez as he would of had TWO homers instead of one off a shoddy “foul ball” call.

Good to see Kevin MacDonald’s hitting improving with each passing game.

A big welcome to Easton Torigoe to the batting rotation tonight! Jeff Van Dornum and Christian Johnson will have to work extra hard to earn Coach Trap’s trust back.

Oh and what was the deal with Coach Komeji calling Wong into home on that one play that could of got us a two run lead instead of just sitting on a one run lead.

Researchers have found that the fear response in people can be permanently reduced by using the beta-blocker propranolol, which could mean that anxiety disorders and phobias could be cured! For example, people who have a fear of spiders can have that fear eliminated via propranolol.

When I first started having problems with my anxiety levels, my doctor prescribed atenolol, which is a related beta blocker. It worked in getting my heart rate down from an always anxious 90-100 to a normal 60-65, but it didn’t stop the self-scanning (where you’re always checking your pulse, checking your breathing, self-gauging your BP, etc.), which can help fuel the flight-or-fight response that causes the anxiety. Of course, the atenolol helped negate the effects of the adrenaline, so I didn’t really feel the continued cycle, but it didn’t stop the cycle at all. So all the atenolol did was mask the symptoms, not stop the underlying problem.

Not to mention, I had some bad side effects and had to stop using it after a couple days. My cousin and his fiancée were visiting at the time, and we were at the PCC playing tourist when I had a bad case of dizziness. Had to rest in the first aid room the rest of the day with my Mom, while my cousin and his fiancée enjoyed the festivities. Although I did go to the dinner buffet, but I wasn’t very hungry.

The folks at the PCC were so nice, they knew we had paid for the Ambassador Lū‘au package, but when I got sick, my Mom and I didn’t do much but hang in the First Aid room. So because we missed the Horizons show, they gave us a free DVD copy of it! I really like that show (we had gone once before), so I was ready to treasure that thing — then my Mom gave it to my cousin to give to my aunt. That reminds me, my Mom promised me she’d buy me a copy of that DVD … 😀

But back to the article. I see where there could be some valid use of these types of drugs to treat anxiety. But it sounds more like a treatment for phobias and PTSD than general anxiety or panic disorder. I mean, you could try initiating an anxiety/stress trigger (say, someone yells at you), and try the drug treatment based on that. My question would be, does the treatment just help with the reaction to the trigger, or any stress in general? Does the cure for my fear of spiders also cure my fear of heights, or my hypochondria? Will it help balance levels of stress hormones, and calm my autonomic nervous system down? I’m not convinced yet.
