Thank you for reminding people that football is profitable but not enough to cover ALL other sport shortfalls like Wahine basketball, softball, swimming, sailing, etc.

A winning football program helps increased revenues. Hope Chow starts an upward climb with his football team. If not, BJ better go crawling to JJ and beg him to come back. At least attendance will be up and the team will be more exciting to watch.

I see nothing wrong with going to the legislature and asking for funding for the non-revenue women’s programs. If they bitch, UH can simply say, “It’s the law.”

I’m no different and thus will say the Ben Jay got great support because of his “business” background at Ohio State and elsewhere.

well, it certainly did not help him in his first year as UHAD for whatever reason(s) – greatest annual loss for the athletic department – realistically, unless UH can secure enough funding to take care of the “non-revenue or low revenue” sports, it will never be profitable or break even.

next year will be the same and people, including Mr. Apple and the BOR, will begin to question their choice for UHAD since so much emphasis was put on “business” experience

oh well, we shall see.

Any opinions on UH being 7th in combined sports in the Big West? I really thought the Big West was a downgrade from the WAC but I guest not.

While I’m on my soapbox, I agree with BC on the morning radio. The State also needs to share in the load and consider an extra 2million as an investment. Isn’t the state the biggest benefactor of a successful program? Who cares if the Stadium Authority is in the black.

70: I agree with your choice of music, but there has to be an appeal to the new generation of Warrior fans. I would obviously prefer a Kanikapila of true Hawaiian music, but we also need to look at what will bring a good crowd out and bring some well needed money for the UH athletic department.
