People are getting frustrated with MM in Memphis and has said so in their blogs so the honeymoon is starting to wear off with MM. I, like all local people, alwz watch the Titans game but just cringe whenever MM drops back and throws the fb……oh, well, praytell, we all hope he gets better ……some day…..

I’m not Luke Duke(of The Dukes of Hazzard). I’m not going to run over the cones. I’m always tempted to roll down the window and say, “Yes. I see the cones.”

I’m getting old.

I remember those telecasts. Totally first-rate.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I miss hearing Leahey’s voice during all the sports.

I sensed some bitterness on Leahey’s part during a men’s basketball game when he asked Tony Sellito if the NAIA still exists. Sellito had made the remark: “I think the last five minutes of the game is the most important,” as a retort to Artie Wilson(I like him) saying that the first five minutes of the second half is the most important. The subtext being: No kidding, as Leahey insulted the ex-coach on-air. Does anybody remember Sellito saying that a player has seven seconds in the key if he keeps moving around?

But hey, the man has a National Championship.

He knows something about the game.

I’m going to rain on your parade – how much will this cost to build, to maintain, and most importantly, to insure 🙂

We will never have that kind of crowd because very few UH students live on campus, the stadium and the campus are on opposite ends of a metropolitan city with 10 miles between them, there are lots of things to do here that occupy people’s saturdays, and because Honolulu is just much of a diverse place than most of those big college towns. Does that mean that it’s not worth playing college football here? absolutely not! when things are going good and the team is winning, we have one of the best home crowds (if not the best crowd) of anyone outside of the Power 5 (and better than some of those teams as well). I don’t care that the whole crowd doesn’t chant “FIRST DOWN” in unison or that not everyone knows the fight song or cares to sing it or that they don’t stand the whole game and dance a silly choreographed dance at certain points of the game. I feel like if we did that, that we would be doing it just to try to be “like them”. I rather be ourselves, even if it isn’t always “great” by the standards of others. Once the team starts winning again, those loud, spirited fans will be back (and they’ll be doing the wave when we are on offense and all kinds of other dumb things that I’ve come to accept).

I still feel like the biggest reason that attendance is down is that the games are not on regular TV anymore. Those regular TV games were all you had if you were a young person and didn’t belong to a family that weren’t already fans. staying up until 10:30 to watch the delayed broadcast of that night’s game when I was 12 years old is what made me into a life-long Hawaii football fan. But now, you gotta have Oceanic Cable and you gotta pony up a lot of money for PPV (which you don’t have if you are not a working adult) and even with that you have to deal with Oceanic’s poor production. No one on that team can infect a viewer the way Leahey and Blangiardi did back in the day. Who on Oceanic’s football broadcast is gonna say “This is better than Statehood” and make you believe it?

I’m not sure what that means innthe shakeup.
