I also read other WCO explanations, including why it seems to be more for the NFL and simply does not work often at the college level. For example, the QB has to read quick, decide quick, throw quick, and be accurate. The QB’ steps (timing) is critical and has to be in sync with his receivers. The emphasis is on short passes (it’s not a running game). For years Joe Montana was the key to the 49ers successful west coast offense.

After 3 games, I can’t tell if the WCO (or some version of it) is what Norm Chow is trying to bring to Hawaii.

Hawaii fans will remember that. From beloved son to Ault Jr in my book.

However, it is much easier to go to the Run and Shoot– we saw it done in one year with a bowl season and win over a Pac 12 team. We also see several teams converting to the spread and shotgun even with a no huddle and new coaches– Fresno State and Ohio State, Utah State, and several others are doing very well in transition. Seems it is easier to pick up the spread offense and the shotgun than to pick up the West Coast.

I have no idea what Coach Chow’s version is.

I am told that the west coast offense is one version. Bill Walsh was the father of the w.c. offense. Husband and I had the pleasure of having 49er season tickets for 20 years (during the Golden Years of Montana, Clark, Rice, etc.) I never could figure out the w.c. offense, but he knows it by heart.

I interpet Rolo as an emotional, fierce comptitier and someone who wants to win badlly. What he did is perfectly fine and within boundries of the game. The guy wants to win, is pouring everything he has to win. Its emotional. Im sure this win was extremely satisfying to him and his compadres. Yes, a little bit of show em up. so what?!? Thats whats makes rivalries. Thats what makes college athelitics fun. Its all in good fun, nobody got hurt with the “X” except for some sensitive peoples feelings.

Enjoy Rolo, you deserve it. but we’re coming back for your arse next year! put a big X on that date!
