The 2007 Sugar Bowl was more of a punishment for both UH and Georgia than a recognition of excellence. Before the game, Georgia was ranked #4 (2 Dec: AP, Coaches, Harris) and #5 (BCS). After the dust settled (7/8 Jan), the AP had them at #2, and Coaches at #3. If the matchup would have been against USC, there wouldn’t have been the appearance of setting up a blowout.

It would have been better to invest in the team when Chow took over instead of thinking about where to find money to buy him out. It accomplishes nothing except to get rid of him.

The fundamental problem with Chow is that we have an offense that does not score enough points– on average per game we score only 21.6 points a game, but we give up on average 27.6 points a game. We are next to the worst in the MWC in giving up sacks– only UNLV is worse and that is with our 7 man pass protection counting the tight end, while a lot of teams are doing better with 6 man protection and more receivers. We turn the ball over too much and do not recover turnovers from the other team– our turnover ratio is second worse in the MWC (just ahead of San Jose State). This has gone on for several years now with Chow’s offense before coming here and it has happened all three years he has been here. Fix this by Chow hiring a new coordinator who will implement a modern productive offense to go with our defense.

it’s not that UH has NO money. it’s that that they’re not willing to spend the money. i have no doubt that if the powers that be really wanted norm chow fired, they would find the money to do so by fundraising, hitting up the boosters, and allocating funds internally.

It looks like UH’s recent reduction in the President’s annual salary from $475K, plus $60K for housing, to $375K takes UH out of the running for “Comparative Salaries for Public University System Leaders”. The “UC OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH & ACADEMIC PLANNING” seems to have missed MRC Greenwood from the list. Would have made “Top 16” in base salary.

I am happy whenever anyone chooses to play for UH = whether his commitment is verbal or in writing.

The important thing is that UH is a choice and not an after thought.

The UH is a flagship university with a total budget over $800 M. It is hard to believe the resources are not available to develop and execute an affordable plan to get UH football out of the mess it has been put in to.

regarding mckenzie milton: verbal commits don’t really matter. if he’s REALLY as good as some people think he is (good as in how good he is as a major D-I prospect versus just an exceptional high school qb in a good system), we’ll see what he does next year when offers from power-5 schools come in.
