Had Takahara-Dias had the full college resume, I think she would have been awesome. Looks like there are too many issues with the others. We don’t want baggage. I realize the wahine should feel blessed that they are Div I athletes, but at this point I’d like them to be blessed with a special coach whom they will feel connected with a wholesome chemistry that offers mutual respect and a ‘buy-in’ attitude for the direction the coach wants to go. There is a candidate who meets the requirements even though he struggled at the Div I level. This ‘local boy’ would be loved and appreciated by his players, the entire UH staff, the fans, the community, the up-and-coming teen and pre-teen Jr. Wahine girls, and the press. He could ask Vince to help as a volunteer coach and bring in some local assistants. Kids could shoot free-throws at halftime again and have their parents shoot 3-pointers for prizes. He could keep our future stars from our Team Aloha rosters and not lose players like Viena-Lota, Fu, Kuehu, Rodrigues, Smith, and Awa-Williams, all who have found success elsewhere. We could get 2,000 plus crowds at the games and get the K5 announcers excited about being there. Weigh the issues. If this guy had been successful in the Pacific Northwest he would have been lured back home long ago. Everyone loves this guy. Give him a new lease on life and put a smile on the wahine nation.

Have any coach gone public to ask for input on athletes that can contribute to their program? or, is it hush, hush to only a select few?

With our small population base, compared to LA or Dallas or SF or Miami, Hawaii has produced its share of many talented athletes. Unfortunately, many go away. Years ago, a college coach said that if Hawaii retained all its high school football players, in his opinion, UH would consistenly be in the top 15 teams.

So far, softball and football players from Austraila and New Zeland, football players from the South Pacific, and one basketball player from China.

Glad to see that football and finally baseball looking to “outer islands” for talent where there is an abundance just waiting for the phone call.

Ego may be a factor, but it is the wrong one( IMHO ). Leaders must make that tough decision; not all will be correct, but it must be made!!

If he has not made an attempt since 2001, then I will no longer consider him as a viable candidate for the Bows baseball HC job. How can you motivate players if you do not make an attempt to secure that golden parchment. If LaCount can do it via the internet, so could he.

For example, football versus water polo or tennis or golf.

Women allowed more scholarships than men volleyball because of “gender equity” issues? Believe someone posted that women get 11.5 and men ge 4.5 scholarships. Is it because football gets 85 scholarships annually?
