“Serbia absolutely crushed Russia in their quarterfinal, mostly on the strength of tough serving and good defense. They served 12 aces and kept Russia out of system for most of night, and played good defense behind a big block.”

In a nutshell, winning from the service line.

Two things undid USA women – service errors and played tentative at times.

Going forward to Tokyo 2020 Karch may wish to either revisit his ban on jump serves and/or spend 50% of practice on serving.

Due to parity among the top teams, the jump serve can make a difference. Beyond aces and faults, causing apprehension and system disruption in the opposing team cannot be overstated.

Haven’t seen the match yet but it is so sad. Had really enjoyed watching this team play so well together. Still, the future is very bright for women USA Volleyball!

10. I agree with you. HUGE missed opportunity. I had warned against missing serves. Rachel Adams undid all her good blocking work with a critical missed serve near the end of the fifth set and USA got aced. Now at best USA can hope for a bronze though it would be of little consolation after two silver medals and even that might slip from their hands. What really hurt the team was that Foluke Akinradewo was unable to play after the first set and that’s what threw off USA completely. I wonder what happened to her. I truly feared that this loss would happen so I’m not surprised, only the way that it happened, losing a comfortable lead.. Totally crushing!
