I’m sure she’ll develop the move during the year.

Try it 2 in front the setter versus 5 steps slide.

Her perception is that she doesn’t get more height.

Kaufman as a high jumper was used to going off one foot prior to coming to UH.
Magill is just beginning to work on it.

He’ll add things later in the season, especially when prepping for postseason since Hawaii is so easily scouted given the amount of film and analysis available on them as compared to other schools.
Would not be surprised to see that combo between Manu-Olevao and Higgins used more this season. Of course, as Higgins said after that match, they should let Magill in on it before hand. Said they hadn’t told her but Olivia figured out immediately it wasn’t her ball.

Kaufman and Prince two others who liked hitting off one foot because they thought they got better elevation, Kaufman especially since it was part of her high jump technique.

yeah liv is in contrast to adolpho whom the latter said she likes taking off one foot.

Sorry Olivia but I’m disagreeing with you on this one. In the slide you actually have an advantage with your jumping ability. In track and field the jumpers get their max height with a running start and leaping off on one foot. Your contact point with the slide is at a higher point vice hitting in front of the setter because of the momentum of the two or more extra steps you take to the pin. Amber Kaufman’s leaping ability made her slide a very successful weapon for UH.

Said that one drill had those lineups. Since all hitters hit left and right, they all get reps on both sides.
as for the double quick, it wasn’t a planned play, if you are referring to the lob to Manu-Olevao where Magill went up as well. It was something that Higgins and Manu-Olevao wanted to try.
Magill doesn’t like the slide, doesn’t like hitting off one foot. She says that she feels it doesn’t take advantage of her jumping ability. But that if they want her to learn to do it, she will.

No. She might be cleared to practice Friday. Doesn’t mean she’d be cleared to play. Given that she has a cold at the moment, don’t think she’d see the court.
After Taylor was cleared to practice, she didn’t play for a number of days.

Magill would like to be a 6-rotation player. She would like to serve. Doestn’ mean it’s going to happen any time soon.

Greeley has the height to block on the right and Passi is very durable with a heavy ball, perfect for 35-40 sets on the left. Magill’s proficiency on the right will allow the double quick to be run on both sides. UH has used it only once this year but Emily Hartong ran it a few times. Magill in the back-row (like Taylor and Greeley) will give UH added length, provided she is up to the task. The length factor allows her to cover the open center while being tall enough to reach roll shots headed for the end-line. McKenna appears to be 6 rotation and if Mitchem is one as well, UH will have plenty of length in the back-row. (Unfortunately, might mean less playing time for the DS’ on the roster.)
