What should be argued is that “greatness” isn’t forever and the position Dunning has left Stanford leaves little doubt that they’ll excel no matter who replaces him. Same cannot be said about the situation here and anyone who says otherwise is blind.

new thread up for Wed.
29/ as for ‘official’ Tuileta is a junior because it’s his third year in college.
he should not have lost a year of eligibility when sitting out. if nothing else he has a redshirt year which means he is a sophomore this season.

And I would much prefer to watch the wahines play at the Stan Sheriff instead. IMO, there is no comparison when it comes to the passion, excitement, and support for the home team. Total 2016 attendance for Stanford was 39,000 while wahine had 128,000. Which program do you think is more likely to collapse? Probably neither but each team faces uncertainty with coaches retiring.

And no, most fans are not blind to the growing trend that tilts top recruits to the Power 5 conference. UH is only one of three mid-majors that have remain a top 20 program since the advent of the Power 5 influence. It is trend that influence all sports including volleyball. As long as fans continue to be passionate about the wahines, players like Nikki will stay home instead of going to Nebraska, or Annie, a top 15 player in HS, will come from Texas.

Stanford has basically been under Dunning for the past 16 years. There’s no telling how Stanford will be going forward. Sure they will attract recruits, but the performance of those recruits will depend a lot upon the coach that is leading them. With Dunning leaving it’s also uncertain what their current players will do. Who knows, maybe they may not gel well with the incoming coach or maybe they went to Stanford for Coach Dunning and now that he’s gone, maybe they’ll transfer.

All the while the happy fanbase continues in their “see no evil, hear no evil… no worry, be happy” mentality. Yeah, go ahead and engage in all the “what if…this player, that player banter” while the dynasty collapses.

Tui graduated 2014. Same as Jahlani Tavai, Donyeh Patterson and other redshirt sophomores on the football team. Tui should be a redshirt sophomore this year….unless Tui himself do not want to stay another extra year in college and declared himself a JR. Some football players are redshirt sophomores even though they graduated a year ahead of Tui. Those are probably greyshirts so I dunno.

Another reason maybe that Tui, UH or USC never officially put in a request for redshirt and the year he sat out counted as a “used” year and is lost. UH can always petition the NCAA for the year back so we will have to wait and see what happened or will happen.

Keep on dreaming. They won the national championship with a bunch of freshmen, well on their way to more championships. Why would they transfer here when the program is in decline with an old head coach who will most likely also retire (if not, he SHOULD), who’s glory days were decades ago? Are some of you actual fans or just blind?
