As for the myriad of comments:
9. that is surprising since Nebraska fans stand for ‘aloha ball’ at the end of every set. It’s just that Hawaii only does it when it counts, the real aloha ball, at the end of the match.

10. don’t believe the incoming players are going. believe they all will still be in class at their respective schools. This is scheduled for mid-May.

13. They aren’t dropping MVB.

As pointed out, each team has its own budget and funding. Wahine volleyball one of 2 programs in the country that turns a profit, Nebraska being the other.

The Wahine try to take one trip every four years. Several of times it has been to Japan. other times to the mainland for spring competition.

Last night I was very impressed with Olevao, she stepped up her game and was hitting with tons of power, and her backrow play looked improved.

Still disappointed with Higgins connections with the middles, but they did only practice for three days. I think Maglio can be a star.

Sounds like a great trip for the team. T00 bad the new recruits, Castillo, Mitchem and Granato won’t be going along. I don’t know why anyone cares about the price of this trip, it’s a great team bonding experience which is priceless.
Also maybe Dave can do some recruiting as well. Italy has a lot of talent.

With out inside information, I would guess that some booster or boosters have stepped up to help defray the cost of the trip. Dave is very good at securing funds for the Wahine when they need it. What I don’t understand is how could any of you put a negative spin on this.

Hope they can make the trip. Will be a good experience for the girls to play these teams from the other countries. Maybe both coaches and team members can learn something.Maybe some day those teams that they play might want to come here for some matches.

11. BIVBF. That’s a fair question, and it was the first one that came to my mind. I’m guessing that each profit center (ie, sport) has its own budget and since WVB is profitable, it gets to spend its budget on such a training expense. If UH is in such dire financial straits that their MVB brothers may be considered expendable in the athletics ohana, it does seem, well, insensitive.

On the other hand, the dollar is the strongest it has been in 12 years and there is precedence for such a trip. My brother reminded me that the Pac-12 teams did take such a trip to China a few years ago. Perhaps this is what is needed for Na Wahine to start thinking that they can be as good as any top-tier D1 team.

Exposure for the program to other countries that can enhance recruiting and create pipelines. Also playing quality teams that can give our players international experience. If they can afford it, this would be a very beneficial trip.

How can they afford to make a trip to Europe when the athletic department is deep in the red? Why would it even be necessary, I wonder?
